Under Weber and Groce, I stopped feeling so bummed after losses, because I expected them. Now, I don't get so bummed after losses because I see the potential.

I'm happy to see that most of the posts after this game are still very positive about the team and BU. We have deficiencies, but we are doing all we can to make up for them.

This team is never completely out of any game, and I like watching them play...even in a loss. I think we are in for some really good times in the near future.

True. There was a phrase tossed around a lot in years past: "It's not that we're losing, it's how we're losing." This team has grit & plays with fight. The days of getting blown out are gone. Yes, there are plenty of deficiencies, but none that seem too damning. Land a couple bigs, gain some experience and the future looks bright.

Yes to both of these posts! Now, let's go out and beat MI on Saturday!! :thumb:

"Us alumni"? What, are you in some Super Secret Double Special Ultra Alumni Association?
What's the yearly fee?

I got an invite for that group, but declined it when one of the requirements was that I had to gauge my quality of life based on how a bunch of guys in O&B performed.

This teams biggest weakness.....all year....has been it's inability to start games with any fire or consistency. "Starters minutes" means absolutely nothing when you go 1-20 and are down by 20 after 8 minutes.
While it may not "fix" all of this teams issues, how you can continue to roll out the same five after 7-8 pitiful starts to games is beyond me. I'm no coach, but I would have made a change after 3-4 examples of this ridiculous play out of the gate.

I mean I get where you're coming from, but those are the same 5 guys that started and lit Mizzou up. Starting 1/20 isn't just on the starters, the whole team needs to make shots. The starters didn't get going and subs came in and it took like 10+ minutes before shots started falling. So it isn't like the starters were the only ones that were ineffective this game.

I'm not really sure why people are so upset about this game or why people thought we should win this game. Minnesota is actually a pretty good team that is supposed to finish in the top 4 of the Big Ten this year.

Same. I can't even find it on KenPom with a paid subscription. Apparently when statsheet was around they did...but I have no idea now.

I emailed KP to ask about it, we will see if he replies.

Bummer, I had wondered if KP had it under premium, so thanks for answering that for me. I'd be curious to see what KP has to say, so if you don't mind letting me know that would be appreciated.

Positive stats for us include 2 more 3-pointers, 3 fewer turnovers, 2 more assists, and 2 more steals. On the negative side, we had a worse FG% at only 34.7%, 9 fewer rebounds, 10 more personal fouls, only 1 block to their 10, and lost by our largest amount this year by 10. Glad Ebo saw some time, he definitely made the most of it and should get better each game - keep it up, big-guy!

Regarding dishrags, Adidas or UA may want to consider putting their logo on some as a test-pilot to see if they might go over as a new version of headbands.

Anyone else getting tired of Underwood's defense? I ask this in 100% sincerity as I am weighing the pros and cons of running it. Seems to me that it is a huge disservice to the team based on roster makeup and skill sets.

I'll hang up and listen.

Wasn't making adjustments to their defensive scheme the move that was credited with turning around OKSt.'s season last year? I seem to also recall there being a realization that the scheme needed to be modified to better fit their personnel. I was under the impression that our current defense already attempts to address our roster deficiencies. But maybe someone else can speak to that with greater authority.

Our defense is really our only identity right now. Currently we're #6 in the country in forced turnovers, #23 in turn over margin(seems surprising), #20 in total steals, #41 in steals per game. What's making this all seem moot is we also turn the ball over too much, foul too much, and have literally no interior post presence on D. In time, the turnovers and fouls will get cleaned up. Interior D needs to be addressed through recruiting. IMO defensively we have a very high ceiling and isn't the problem. We just don't have the horses yet.

Not at all. It is the only thing keeping us close. If we were playing virtually any other defense, I believe we would be blown out. We don't have the personnel to do hardly anything else.

I think it is doing the opposite a GREAT service to this team. His defense although allowing fouls, builds intensity, creates opportunities we might not otherwise come by, and creates havoc for opposing guards and offensive sets as well.

Without the defense, and especially rebounding, this team has the opposite record than it does imo.:chief:

When you lack in interior defense, you must over-compensate with ball pressure. We have more depth and fouls to give at "guard", so I think ball-pressure defense plays to our roster make-up. But hey, what do I know?:chief:

Even our current defense, flawed as it is, would be enough if we were more consistent in our offensive production.

No. It's our best asset at the moment. But that's partly because the offense is so poor.

This, and the bigs having to overplay their men down low as a way to compensate for our weaknesses on defense.

I’m disappointed with the winnable losses, and am baffled by some of the inconsistencies from game to game, but am pleased with our schemes. I just don’t think we have the right personnel, obviously.

If we were oversigned next year I wouldn’t care about the lack of fit, because I’d assume the pieces that didn’t would be on their way out, and the pieces that remained would have gained some good experience in a system that they’ll be running next year.

What troubles me is that we have a lack of fit, and only 1 player coming in (so far) next year. If Finke happens to transfer we have Black, Ebo, and Matic in our front court.

This season’s struggles has me more concerned about who we sign in the spring than anything else.

Not calling you out specifically, but didn't last night's comeback start with going to zone?

You took the words out of mouth. Minnesota began taking 3's that were not falling. The zone changed the momentum of the game at that time. Pressure man to man is the primary defense, but if something is not working Coach Underwood is willing to try something else. Later on they went back to the pressure D, but kept throwing in zone and zone traps from time to time.

Yeah I was disappointed too. He may never reply, but if he does I’ll let you know.

Yikes, this wasn't Reggie's first rodeo plus I didn't realize others had problems in this area before. This might have been enough to lock up the Fulmer Cup for Minny.

He replied: "I don't. They can be pretty misleading."

The trail runs cold.

It almost feels like they waited intentionally, right?

Right. But since he is banned from the campus for 2.5 years... I'd like to think this is serious enough for basketball to not get in the way.

2 scandals from the Pitino gang in 1 season.
