Gordon did not play for Webster Groves tonight in the Quincy Shootout. One contact said he was suspended and another said he was kicked off the team. Ramey is quick. Had 26 pts, and was great from the line.

Sounds like some character issues. Time to move to plan Z

Tejon got suspended. Is it time to cut bait with him?

Point is, until you know what the transgression was (and the offender's behavioral history), you're over your skis.

What about Goodwin coming to ILL, were we not his second choice? or that boat has sailed.

If he was involved in what took place, you don’t want him associated with your program. Let’s say he’s not charged, it’s still not behavior you want from your students, I’d hope .

I'm reasonably certain that we aren't going to a top 50 recruit and saying "look, we are full up at your position so we don't want you, but could you convince your friend to decommit from his choice and play for us?". That's what would constitutes back channel communicating with Gordon and it's absurd.

The staff certainly may be recruiting Ramey with the hope that landing him would flip Gordon, but that's not the same thing as flat out back channel communicating.

What a bizarre way to spin this to fit a made up narrative.

They were there to see Gordon not Ramey regardless of what was reported.

No one actually knows for sure about this, it has all been speculation. That being said, they likely are there to check out Ramey and Gordon and see if there is anything possible with either one. To assume Gordon wasn't a big part of the trip is naive, but to say we had no interest in seeing Ramey as well seems like pure speculation.

I at no point suggested Gordon wasn't part of the motivation. I only contend that there is at least some legit interest in Ramey, even if it is primarily as a means to attract our real target in Gordon. Signaling interest and sweetening the pot in case there's a decommit is wholly different from actively trying to bring about said decommit.

I also think it's flat out different than basically contacting a family member of a signed recruit. In our case, we are recruiting a different person who might signal interest to and help attract another. In the Cuonzo

I agree, never thought you did

Well I think it's clear that April and May are going to be very interesting. Between decommits, 5th years, and JUCO's there should be more than enough news to keep us entertained.

They are only stop gaps, but getting the right guys can certainly make the rebuild much less painful. Groce would probably still be here if Starks, Cosby, and/or Thorne contributed more.

Do a post history and you see I came to Tejon's defense over the recent suspension. Regarding C Gordon some character issues came out last year and now he might be kicked off his team. So yes I'm concerned about team chemistry.

How could we have made the top choices? He never had a dream about the Chief chasing him or anything. That’s how you make a college decision. You wait for a sign like being chased by a Billiken...whatever that is.

He just woke up to early. He was actually being chased out of town by a Billiken. :thumb:

Groce was a good recruiter but a mediocre coach. He rarely won big recruiting battles at Illinois. Doubt he would have been here with them contributing more, the players never learned how to win.

Underwood: I've traveled a lot in the last few days (recruiting). Champaign to LA back in one day is not something I'd advise (he was recruiting Tevian Jones).

Underwood on recruiting 2018: There's a lot of players out there. We've identified them and continue to identify. Recruiting is an everyday challenge.

Underwood: Not a day goes by that we don't meet about recruiting and talk about recruiting.

Dan I apologize if this is the wrong spot but just saw a blurb that old Illini recruiting Target Mayan Kiir has been booted from LSU along with a couple other players. Man some of the kids we were on have some issues it seems...Looking for more info.

Not that we were in play anymore, but Bryan Penn Johnson officially down to DePaul and Washington. Really didn't want to take on another project anyway IMO

BPJ is a classic example of why you can't just look at recruiting site rankings when evaluating a prospect. He showed a lot of promise earlier in his prep career, and still has upside with that size, but just hasn't developed his game enough. He's still a top 100 player according to rankings, but when you look at the schools that have hung around with him, you can see that college coaches aren't nearly that high on him.

That being said, he would be a good get for DePaul. Sure, he's a project, but definitely worth the risk for a program like that. However, I would think he'll end up at Washington if they really push for him.

Living by recruiting site rankings alone is not the way to go through life.

Considering our lack of bigs, I still would have taken him...unless we backed off of him and not the other way around. (Or if taking him would lower our chance with Okoro)

I don't think were in the position to be picky right now. I haven't followed this one very close, but sounds like he was highly rated early in high school and has since leveled off. Not sure i would classify that as a project. Bottom Line:

WE HAVE TO HAVE LARGE HUMANS ON THIS TEAM.

I would actually prefer 2 wings or 2 guys at least 6-6 to 6'8 for athletic reasons, with some experience already (juco) over a "levelled off" talent, down to DePaul and a lower tier Pac 12 team.:chief:

I can’t wait until we are low enough tier to get number one nba picks to come to our team.
