I started to make a list of who I want to stay and go, but it turned into just backcourt and frontcourt. Brad has GOT to get some bigs who can play besides Leron.

I’ve said it before and LB strikes me as the one who could and should move on. He’s a high level talent who could start, or most certainly get starter tick for most of the top programs who have a legitimate shot at making a deep run.

If I were in his shoes it would be very hard for me to stick unless we do land some front court help and have a real shot at dancing.

He’s got ONE year left, has to maximize his post college playing chances and likely wants to play in a damn tournament game. Malcolm Hill anyone?

And freakin Rutgers is half way to advancing, now that would be icing on this crap cake season.

Rebounds, fouls, free throws, and Leron's uncharacteristic off-shooting game - all unfortunately sunk us. Assists, TOs, blocks, steals, and 3-Ptrs made were all better than IA's stats. Great game, Kipper, with 31 - please stay with us another year. The Illini basketball season ends with a record of 14-18. Let's make the appropriate recruiting additions and look forward to next year!

A lot of effort out there by the Illini, but when you are coming from behind and cannot secure the defensive rebounds, even after missed free throws, you're not giving yourself a chance to win. For next season, we need more size on the front line, period. Shore up our defense and rebounding and reduce the fouls.

I’m generally a pretty optimistic dude, but looking at next season it is hard for me to not have a “I’ll believe it when I see it” attitude when it comes to this program being in the run for an NCAA Tourney bid.

Almost everyone is back next year. So, I'm looking for more of the same. Lots of fouls. Low basketball IQ. No size. Not sold on Underwood. He will really have to earn his pay next year.

I'm kind of sitting on the curb, watching the dirty runoff water with you on this one. I'll be enthusiastic again next year, but I'll be a very nervous and skittish fan until the ship is clearly and consistently righted.

I think it’s funny how so many people wanna go after coach. Honestly, just like in football, our last coaching staff was inept causing a massive roaster imbalance. Underwood even said it was by choice that the pocketed the last 2 scholarships to help recruiting This offseason. We are feeling the groce effect. I personally blame our moronic (past) and athletic director for absolutely tanking both football and basketball. Underwood did ok given the circumstances. Things looked very grim well before Underwood was hired.

Well maybe if you would get one of those commits from your updated page to actually pick the ILLINI, you could be a little more positive? :D, btw thanks for keeping us up to date.:chief:

Is there a transfer thread yet? I will be sad to see any of these guys go to be honest. We need people that have had a taste of the new system.

I'll be back to positive next fall. Just totally disappointed right now.

I'll work on those recruits. :)

Not really anything to add to what everyone else has already said...a disappointing end to a disappointing season.

I love each and every one of our guys, guys who committed to the UofI when they could have gone elsewhere. I wish them all the best.

But, I think it is obvious that we need a significant upgrade in talent to get to where we want to be.

Hopefully we can make that leap in the next few years...

Just got back from the game. Here are some thoughts/observations/opinions:

*The team with Tyler Cook won (BIG recruiting loss that looked for the longest time we were the leaders). Actually the team with overall more talent and played better won. Didn't realize how young they are and enjoyed watching them play.
* Iowa fans travelled as well as UI and more confident from the start (for good reason). One of their fans in my section so obnoxious he had everyone else pulling for UI.
* BU much better bball coach than Groce but don't think he had a good year. Our guys played with very little confidence tonight and feel a big part is how he was reacting very negatively to nearly every foul, turnover, our miss, Iowa make......and acted like he could not believe what we were doing. Not inspiring.
* Our defense and rebounding obviously weak. Our zone defense looks terrible IMO with lots of holes. Not sure why we are pressuring their bigs outside of 15 feet. Too many times they were able to drive and also takes our bigs out of position for boxing out.
* We shot the ball well and scored but did not think our offensive sets were as effective and for positionless basketball we seem to have to move three or four players around each time before we start our play. Wish we would push more in transition and wish Trent would have been more aggressive early when Bohannon was guarding him (thought it was counter productive to have a big picking for him and would have favored iso)
* TJL - good game, strong defense, bad FTs
* Kip - good game, big scoring, bad FT box out, doesn't see court well and missed open shooters
* TF - ok game, seems to be passive when he is without ball and we are running our offense, could put more pressure on defense even when not scoring, Iowa tried to keep bigger guys on him making it tough, GREAT year and excited about his future
* Black - bad game, bad fouls; really good year
* Smith - shot looks the best on team in warmups; playing tight; didn't see much improvement this year but still have high hopes
* Finke - good O, bad D
* Williams - not much of a factor tonight
* Alstork - ditto; wish he could have had a better year; effort was there
* AJ - thought he had ok game; scored early; has become one of our better defenders and rebounders as far as positioning goes
* Greg - ditto; better than expected year; looked like he was also feeling BU's disappointment tonight.
Not a big fan of refs tonight but did not think they were a significant factor.

We need athletes and bigs. Go Illini!

Sorry so long but my only game in person this year (Expensive ).

I've read on this thread over and over, "recruit, recruit, recruit", and then say how they hope we don't lose anyone. How many times have we read, "we need more talent?" I, for one, am okay with lesser talented guys transferring out. We need to build a team that can compete in the Big Ten.

Hot take: Iowa will be a better team than us next year (possibly much better than us if we don't get any other legit recruits than Ayo).

How appropriate in our final game/loss of the year we are out rebounded by 20 and out shot at the line by 30 .... and to add insult to injury Butgers beats Minny. We couldn't even lose our way into the right bracket this year. That EIU game should have been a bigger reality check than I took it for at the time. Hope there is some help on the way... we need it.

It's nice to see that Rutgers v. Minnesota game the amount of fouls and free throws shot were almost equal. We foul a lot (way too many dumb one's) but our discrepancy in this game was atrocious.

Rad... good comments and thoughts. Thanks.

On tonight...I really liked 23 assists and only 8 turnovers. hated we gave up 41 Hawkeye FTs (we took 12) and were doubled on boards 20 to 40. The assists really give me confidence that the guys are gaining confidence in offensive system. D has to strengthen...particularly down low and less fouls.

Random observation... I believe MS is shooting close to 50% from left corner 3P spot.

Sort of hard to believe since he was only 16 of 69 for the whole season.:)
