Those are bad records, no doubt. I agree that the defense has major holes. However, I'll play devils advocate.

#7 in the country in turnovers forced, #1 in Big10

#1 in Big10 in steals

#1 in Big10 in opponent turnovers per possession, 22.7%. That's the best of any Big10 team in the past 8 seasons.

#21 in the country in opponent assist to turnover ratio

#38 in the country in offensive rebounding pg, which in all fairness is impressive considering our size problem

Yes, lots of problems to address and I get why people don't like the product. You have to give credit where credits due though. Underwood has established a defensive identity in year 1.

It’s the offense that I’m concerned about. It seems like BU has gotten in each players head at different times of the season making them afraid to shoot for fear of getting a quick hook. Seems to leave many of them looking over their shoulder getting ready to be subbed out if they throw up a shot deemed unacceptable, or miss a layup, or a defensive assignment, etc. I think this caused them to play tight instead of loose. Frasier was the exception but in most other cases. . . . . . Maybe another year in the system will allow them to not play with fear.

You are right about credit, but I think you just solidified the argument about how bad this team was in certain areas. To force the most turnovers, get the most steals and be one of the better offensive rebounding teams and yet you finish with 4 Big Ten wins in a not-so-good year for the conference. That tells you just how atrocious the team was in other areas like defense, fouls and defensive rebounding.

JMO... but missing layups should be grounds for being benched.... Good players don't miss layups...

That's not true. He pulled guys more for not taking shots that they should have taken.

Love the AD Whitman quotes, I believe there is a plan for FB and BB that hasn't been there for awhile.

Regarding some of the stats which reflect poorly on the team. Most are from lack of height, solve this issue and our defense greatly improves around the rim.

Our shooting percentage was bad compared to the number of wide open looks we had this year. This offense in the second half of the season yield a ton of open shots and lay-ups that weren't made. Once again we need to add two big bodies and a shooter. Possibly Smith, Frazier, and Damonte will improve shooting next year.

Anyone else concerned that JW puts the blue diamond before the orange diamond? #OrangeAndBlue

Great job by AD Josh W. :thumb:

The Whitman quote sounds great. "We are writing one of the great stories in the history of college sports and the ending is better than you can imagine." The opening chapter where the new coaches are hired is impressive, but chapters 3,4,5 where the last 2 football seasons and this basketball season have been pretty much brutal. Sure hope the "ending" part is in the relatively near future.:illinois::chief::illinois:

Headline made me wonder, what are the "best written stories of college sports programs". Really only two stories of multi-sport ascension come to mind: Wisconsin and Oregon. There's some one-sport stories out there such as Butler and Gonzaga in Basketball, and maybe Boise State for Football. Any others I'm not thinking of?

I think that the biggest thing, though, is that you can basically make an unlimited amount of contact off the ball if you're inside the arc and B1G refs will ignore it. You can contest a shot inside the arc and make contact and if you're the more athletic player, B1G refs will ignore it. But if you lay a finger on the ballhandler outside of the arc, you will be called for a foul...

Hopefully the B1G refs will become accustomed to the pace and style of play that we employ, but maybe they won't. I just hope that Underwood continues on with it, because basketball could use the breath of fresh air.

Great observations... i don't think we foul nearly as much as the refs do? more than other teams do? Look at the box score from the Iowa game the next night - was very even on fouls...

How many times did i see Alstork pick up a nothing foul at the halfcourt or beyond the top of the key?
