I think "huge get" might be overstating it, but we desperately need shooters.

How similar is he to Aaron Jordan? Both are similar height, both lack plus athleticism, and both are outside shooting specialists. But AJ was a top-100 recruit, and look how long it took him to really contribute regularly.

Every situation is different, so I hope Griffin is ready to contribute early. But I don't think we should bank on that.

Have only seen a few clips of AG, so chunk of salt, but his handles/playmaking ability seem better.

Larry Bird started at Indiana, but did not get along with Knight and left for ISU

He did leave, but it was before the first practice and it had nothing to do with Knight. He was only on campus for 24 days.

Is Black on pace to graduate this spring? If he is the possibility of him becoming a grad transfer is there even if most think it is unlikely. He has never been in the tournament and our chances for next year are probably 50-50 at best. There are certainly plenty of tourney teams that could use a 6'7 scorer of his caliber. Certainly not saying he is leaving but if he is on pace to graduate it is at least a possibility a lot of good programs would want him

Trice will not commit until April 11th. If we wait that long and he goes elsewhere we may be left with nothing.

So if we have 2 committed and we had 3 schollies, and we have to assume that the last scholly would be reserved for a B1G?

Then who are the leading transfer candidates to open 2 schollies to take a 5 person class?

For Jones/Ramey or whomever?

I have no idea what the staff is thinking at this point, and haven't read this thread. That said....

Losing is easy -- you can lose with anybody. Winning requires talent and exceptional dedication. I think the staff has little to lose by turning over the roster with the exceptions of Leron, Trent, and probably Spicy. They desperately need players who will buy in to the system, and can execute it. My guess is that's where this offseason is heading.

I have mixed feelings as a fan, because I think we have good young men on the roster and would much rather see them succeed. But at the same time, this group hasn't able to do what the coach wants, in a year of playing together. It's not just that they're young overall. Time for change.

Wow, I'd say that was an incredibly premature statement about young players like Smith, Williams, Kipper and probably even Lucas. I guess you would've said similar things about Luther and Gill when they were freshmen.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Except Jeffrey was what, 6'1" or so and nobody put him anywhere near top 7 for Mr Basketball.

A detail missing from the original comment. Obvious point being an NBA pedigree is meaningless in the abstract.

It always seems to carry a lot more weight when the player is burger boy quality.

Bob Knight recruited a ton of mediocre athletes, Dan Dakich, Damon Bailey and no, Larry Bird was not an elite athlete.

What Knight looked for was elite shooting (scoring is the purpose of the game) and very high BB IQ.

Ramey will be at the Mizzou game today. No idea where he ends up. Odd recruitment from the Missouri staff. Was hoping they would just completely drop the ball and never attend one of his high school games.

jjh, you’re speaking in absolutes as if you can predict the future.

Freshman stats:
Egwu: 1.9ppg, 1.5rpg
Leonard: 2.1ppg, 1.2rpg
M. Morgan: 1.5ppg, 1.2rpg
F.Kaminsky: 1.8ppg, 1.2rpg
D.Green: 3.3ppg, 3.3rpg
K. Bates-Diop: 3.8ppg, 2.1rpg

Clearly, freshman seasons don’t always accurately predict what a player could become.

:thumb: And this list could go on and on......

For all those claiming that (1) we have a great shot at Ramey, and (2) Mizzou has no shot, this development sure doesn't support the case.

Is there any word of any Ramey plan to visit Illinois?

Clearly, the kid hasn't broken off any contact with Mizzou if he's visiting them. And given their dire need for guards, I suspect they'll do/say whatever it takes to get back into the game with him.

Maybe you will know this, but thought I had read that Ramey wants to be the star of the show? Not so much a part of mix of continuous rotations that Underwood does.

Oh & Arkansas, beat Mizery!!!

I haven't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me.

With the exception of talented kids going to schools like Duke, UK, and Kansas, I can't think of many examples in which a high-level PG goes to a school that already has a high-level freshman PG and an incoming 5* PG. Simply from Ramey's point of view, Illinois makes far less sense than Mizzou or Oklahoma State or Texas. I'd love to have him, though.

I like that his dad was always a play hard guy. I think attitude can transfer to a kid.
On Griffin... he has a coaching dad which likely means above avg BB IQ....looking at the video looks like he has good vision (saw some nice feeds) and very nice stroke.

On side note, guess 5th yr grad candidates are not out? seems if we could find a Big transfer who plays in a similar system.

I think Trice is preferable to that....a 2 yr big athlete that could really help us immediately.
