I don't think he has ever been very realistic at least this early. I guess we may have reached out initially, he has been committed to like 3-4 different schools, did not make it into WKU iirc, I think he went the GED route to get eligible for JUCO.

With the Griffith commit think we will see soon if anyone plans to leave, think Trice signs on April 11 the, so that would fill available slots. The only thing that we must secure a quality big, I know all have a wish list 2 miles long, but really we need a big.

As far as , making room, think that will be the hard part, or maybe not. No one has really said anything either way, again BU keeps that door shut, as he should. Unfortunately with the way things ended up, many have opinions on who they think should see there way to the door.

Like to see some better quality athletes on the court, but maybe some of the ones we have are just fine. Maybe a few quality helpers, and time will be the solution. Can't see how some of these guys can't work on a shot, that they can fix. Being 7'0 is something you can only when you're that height. Watching Michigan\ Purdue game shows that if you have a rim protector, your defense can only be better. And UM has 2 bigs in Iggy and Castleton next year, good grief.

We Need a Big Guy. ;):illinois:

My take on two players who reming me of other players:
Damonte has that smooth look that his dad did, and I hope he continues to improve.
Tevian Jones reminds me a bit of Kendall Gill.

Sorry man but your lawn was getting out of control I had no choice but to cut that lawn back down where it needs to be. How convenient that you choose the number by my username to try and cut me down for credibility, but you still make no credible argument.

Don't flatter yourself kid I didn't even look at your name or the number. IF you weren't so young and shiftless like the rest of your saggy pants generation, you'd do a little research and then you'd have known that Bird played in the NCAA title game vs Magic and M$U in 1979. And, my lawn is just fine cause I ain't got $h1t else to do but mess with it every day. Let me show you the door now.

So what are the chances we land this Bird guy that everyone's talking about?

We need to be recruiting players that have pro potential. He’s just not athletic enough.😛

I asked this on the previous page but got no replies, so....

Is it the consensus that the coaching staff knows who is transferring and they are waiting until after the banquet for any announcements???

Having concluded my Larry Legend history lesson I'll help get the thread back on track. In response to your question, I have no idea and haven't heard from my guy who might know. That being said, It would be my guess that they probably do. All of the coaches have to have a good feel for their squad going forward. They also do post season face to face meeting with the players. Not sure IF they've conducted those yet.

I haven't seen a thing, alot of speculation, but I'm sure if we had anything firm , it would be topic #1. After BU was hired last year , it took a few weeks, but then the jaw dropping transferring started. After the banquet, is a good guess, might be after final 4, would be my guess. This board gets the inside pretty fast, good /bad, sometimes ugly.

My opinion is that the kids still probably don't know. This will take awhile as other people reach out to through 3rd parties to express interest. Now there may be a player or two who knows they don't belong and are already out the door.

I know Frazier said something to the effect of talking everyone in to coming back. That makes me think that the attitude is right on the squad.
Valid point. I'll put out a feeler. Cant promise anything.

If there are coach/player meetings going on soon, the staff more than likely has a plan laid out for each player going forward. What is the date of the banquet?

That is great! Made me laugh out loud. I'm a die hard Illini since the early 70s. I wish we ever had a player as gifted skilled and talented in all phases of the game as he was.

Good question. I'm just not convinced this Bird guy is THAT athletic.

Pass.

Underwood on that podcast yesterday said the meetings to lay out what players need to work on & making plans going forward would most likely be done before spring break. I think the banquet is April 9th or 11th.

jjh, you’re speaking in absolutes as if you can predict the future.

Freshman stats:
Egwu: 1.9ppg, 1.5rpg
Leonard: 2.1ppg, 1.2rpg
M. Morgan: 1.5ppg, 1.2rpg
F.Kaminsky: 1.8ppg, 1.2rpg
D.Green: 3.3ppg, 3.3rpg
K. Bates-Diop: 3.8ppg, 2.1rpg

Clearly, freshman seasons don’t always accurately predict what a player could become.

I am not as stressed as others may be. We are a very young team and they can and will improve. I hope we can add some interior strength and toughness on our defense both through recruiting as well as through hard work and development by our current players.
Also young players that are tall like Vessel or Ebo often take a litter longer to mature and acclimate to their growing bodies. Plus Ebo is still relatively new to the game I hope he takes a big leap skill wise and well as gaining strength..
I am interested in our two offers to the young men from Africa.

According to Underwood on Saturday SportsTalk, they will be doing that in "the next couple of weeks".

LBZ beat me to it.

I've seen a couple people do this already...

Can we agree to get our newest commits name right? It's Griffin, not Griffith

And for those who are still skeptical, Hendrickson seemed pretty sold on the kid. Said he was a top 5 kid in the state when he was still in Illinois.

I do think it's obvious what we put around him will be key. We need more pieces.

You got the wrong generation bubba. I know probably every bit as much about Larry Bird as you do and maybe more. But Im not here to have a competition to see who can beat their chest harder or see who can make the most clever comeback. All I said was Larry Bird wasnt exactly what I would call athletic and your all butt hurt and throwing wierd backward insults like your some sort of beefcake. And the best part is you think your age Trumps anything I say. Here's some advice grow up and get over yourself.
Peace Brother. Your first post made me laugh. I wasn't offended and still am not. I enjoyed the back and forth. I'll show myself the door now!

No more Larry Bird talk in the recruiting thread? I'm stoked!

Woah... Really was hoping this whole Mark Smith transfer was just a rumor but it appears it is not according to Roy Schmidt.

Could the reason we took Alan Griffin be because of this?

"HOLY ILLINIWEK!! I can confirm thru a most reliable source that Mark Smith is transferring from the University Of Illinois--done deal. He will be meeting with AD Josh Whitman tomorrow. UNBELIEVABLE!"
