porter jr looks like he has no idea what's going on out there. coming back may only have hurt his draft stock. but then again, draft is on potential so maybe not.

Hopefully, this will be the last time we see Michael Porter Jr. in a Miznoz uniform. I hope he has a great NBA career -- he seems like a good kid.

No chance he comes back. He's a top 5 pick right now based on potential alone. If he has a rough sophomore year, his potential may start to be questioned and he could drop.

So it looks like in the Final 32 we have:

6 SEC
5 ACC
4 B1G
4 Big 12
4 Big East
0 PAC 12

& for all of the flak the Big 10 took, the conference is 4-0 through the round of 64. Hope it is still that way come Sunday evening.

Tilmon with 2 points and 5 fouls in 12 minutes. Ouch.

On a completely unrelated note, UMBC is the lowest-ranked Kenpom team still alive at #168. They are (no joke) #1 in "Luck" on Kenpom, however. :D

Tilmon with 2 points and 1 rebound. Time for him to pull a Cliff Alexander and try to enter the NBA Draft and go undrafted please.

“We was all out there going our hardest and get the score back to where we wanted it to be,” Tilmon said. “By the time that happened, all of us were dead tired. When you’re tired you cant get the same production.”

ah, a misery edjamakation is priceless

How about that Tony Bennett?

Remember some fans wanted him as a coach?

Yes, I wanted him as a coach. Badly. Why? Because he's one of the very best in the game.

Tom Izzo and Coach K are also pretty decent coaches who have lost to 15 seeds. It happens.

The monkey on Bennett's back, however, is the tournament. He's developing a reputation -- sorta like Sean Miller -- of not living up to expectations in March. Last night cemented that reputation for sure.

By the way, you know what UVA losing means? It probably means Bruce Weber is going to the Sweet Sixteen.

Weber having an easy path to the S16 is sad but I don't care what success he has, his personality and how he treated the players here was gross. Thank god he is gone.
Bennett handled that interview with pure class. Pure class.
Martin is such a bad coach that I can't believe he doesn't try another career. He is obviously likable and can sell but he can not coach his way out of a paperbag.
ILL

I wouldn’t get too far ahead yet. Virginia had an easy path to the round of 32 but, that didn’t work out. That said I am happy for Weber and hope he succeeds. I don’t hold the hate for him that some here have. I am grateful for his contribution to some of the best years in our basketball history. I don’t blame Weber for hiring Mike Thomas and starting our sports hell.

If you compare Illinois basketball vs. Weber basketball since Weber was fired here, I would say Weber wins. And it’s not really close. Becoming even more pronounced this year.

I also have no ill will towards Weber. Wish him and his program the best. Now if they could only take the conference away from Kansas.

I've changed over time on this. I used to despise Weber with a visceral passion in the years after he was fired. But I've mellowed over time.

Ultimately, I think he has deep flaws as a communicator and a leader. But I think he's a genuinely good man. And for that reason, I'll root for him. I hate how he drove the Ferrari into the ditch, but he did give us a magical run. I'll always appreciate him for that.

John Groce is also a good man, but there's really no nostalgia with Groce. I'd rather just forget the Groce era entirely. I wish him well, though.

As for Cuonzo.......well, Mizzou fans, this is what you've got in Cuonzo as a coach. Enjoy your recruiting victories, because your on-the-court glory will be quite limited.

One game? Ok, let’s downplay the biggest upset in college sports history.

It was certainly a big upset, no doubt. The biggest ever. And Bennett can fairly be criticized for not living up to the expectations in the tournament.

But c'mon......it's a tad bit ridiculous to suddenly assert that Bennett isn't a great coach because of this loss. Just look at his last 5 years.....and that's in the ACC, with a team that is probably one the lesser talented teams in that league. This doesn't even consider the success he had at Washington State, which is a total basketball backwater.

The man can flat out coach.

2013–14 Virginia 30–7 16–2 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2014–15 Virginia 30–4 16–2 1st NCAA Round of 32
2015–16 Virginia 29–8 13–5 T–2nd NCAA Elite Eight
2016–17 Virginia 23–11 11–7 T–5th NCAA Round of 32
2017–18 Virginia 31–3 17–1 1st NCAA Round of 64

He’s a good coach. Definitely made some good points.

I just believe great coaches win on the big stages. Bennett had the number 1 team with the number 1 overall seed and lost. A 1 seed was never expected to lose ever, period. Bennett found a way to change that.
Like i said, good coach, not great.

If he takes UVA to a title win next year i’ll happily stand corrected, but i’m feeling pretty comfortable in never having to.
