I was there too. One thing I was impressed with from El General was that he constantly had his head up looking around to see how he could distribute to or who was sneaking up on him.

Yeah, you can see he plays with good balance in his film.

A sense of pace and tempo is a great asset in a point guard. Of course, you need to have the raw tools to make that play, best proved by the fact that Jaylon Tate had that innate sense of tempo in spades and it always showed when the level of opposition got low enough.

Could it could be argued that Painter's system; which he learned from Gene Keady, does not necessarily give them all the skills needed to succeed in the NBA? Going back to Keady, PU has always done a nice job of developing college centers, especially the muscular, non-athletic, limited skill set banger types. They have also done quite well during the regular season, with relatively marginal talent, but have not had much postseason success. Not that there's anything terribly wrong with that.

The fact that visits to PU and Oregon makes our chances on Okoro bleaker. The information from the source from Normal would only me things more likely our chances seem slimmer.

I know we have been active in his recruitment but sometimes you need to read things for what they realistically indicate. Him reclassifying makes his visits to both campus indicates he has other plans rather than us. Time to move on.;):illinois:

This entire argument is pointless. However, 100% right. Like the poster who said that Purdue has had bigs develop and outside shot... Really? I mean Really? Purdue does not stretch the bigs and does not force them to by outside players and I didn't think it was just us jerk ILL fans that thought it was because Painter's offense was developed in 1914. Now do they have success with bigs that sit in the lane and get rebounds, sure do. However that is not the way to the NBA for Okoro. Therefore, I can see why Oregon would be and I can see why we could be a good fit. I think if he re-classifies he has a good chance of playing 3 years in college and that makes Oregon a good fit but I still dont think it is a better fit than here... but I love ILL... so.

Oregon also runs some spread stuff and a lot of spacing into iso plays and pick and rolls from spread. Okoro could do the inside/outside parts he would do with us on a team that has recently been to the final four and with a much better overall track record since he’s been in the country. That plus the Nike money is quite a draw if I’m a big

The one thing that I want that Illinois teams haven't had in years is chemistr and a great locker room. We can talk all day about getting the best players but you need players that know their role, teams with great chemistry win championships. If okoro wants to play at Purdue where he thinks he has the best chance for his future then so be it. I think Underwood will find the right pieces.

NO

NONE OF THIS HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED YET!

Just because it was said on a message board does not make it fact.

....and guys like Frazier and Ayo to get you the ball isn't? B1G > Pac 10

Under Altman Oregon also maintains a quality stable of guards, including Champaign’s own Victor Bailey jr (by way of Austin). Someone also posted recently that the pac12>>>>>>>big10 in terms of having guys in the league. And again the Nike money and a recent final four appearance.

Let’s not act like Oregon can’t make sense too, depending on perspective and which attributes a recruit may weigh more heavily.

Sure sounds like Feliz may be the player we need currently, more than Ramey. It would be a coup to get Ramey of course, but with a big freshman class, new system, etc, Feliz sounds like someone we have to have, not someone we all would drool over to have.

Been playing with grown men all his life and good in the locker room. We are going to need that for sure!

Feliz might result in more wins in year 1 but getting a player like Ramey would be a huge perception boost and help us get our frontcourt targets. I'd take Feliz if he wants to commit but Ramey is the recruit we need to help us feel much more confident about the future of the program. I wouldn't hate it if the staff waited to see what Ramey decides. It all depends on how much weight we're putting into next season.

Swanigan might improve eventually, but I am not sure I'd point to these guys if I were PU. I fact, I am not sure who I would point to other than Carl Landry. Brian Cardinal?

Improve eventually? At Purdue?

While at Purdue Swanigan’s 3P% went from 29% in year 1 to 45% in year 2. By definition, that is improving your outside shot.

It's funny, let's not focus on the recent guys that improved at Purdue but let's talk about the guys that played there before these recruits were even born.

First mention of a possibility or a questioning of Ebo returning? Matic yes, Ebo, this is the first I have seen.

Both of them practiced hard yesterday, but that doesn't mean they will stay or go. We'll just have to wait and see.

Ramey is a better prospect than Feliz by all accounts and no amount of message board rationalizing will change that. He also provides the additional benefits of pulling in the biggest name from St.Louis and depriving a key rival of a very important piece which we'll be matching up against for several years. That said, how long they are willing to slow play Feliz, if at all, depends on just how bad they feel they need another lead guard in the short term. Most do not feel they are as desperate for a PG as they were when Groce seemingly tried to have his cake and eat it with Brunson and Evans.
Wednesday would probably be ideal because signing period starts then which is all the longer they could reasonably be expected to wait.

Well, Feliz just committed.

On "...perception boost..the recruit we need to feel much more confident in the program.."

I love Ramey and Feliz, but we need to get players that will fit and play together well and learn the system quickly. Feliz is plus on class balance and Ramey is a plus in other factors.

Last year MS was considered the perception game changer and it was a win for us but it was also fleeting.

BL we should go for quality players that want to be here and believe in the coaches vision...winning will be the sustainable solution for recruiting, long term...not nabbing any particular player such as Brunson, Alexander, etc

.......... but getting a player like Ramey would be a huge ....................

but.

That is the first problem. That so late in the game we are not sure.

The second, as I see it, is that even Ramey does not know where he may or may not go. Top 10, in April? And, that too when Coach U paid him a home visit (perhaps for teh nth time?)?

It is up to teh kid and that has to be respected.

BUT, I just do not think we should wait for too much longer. Talent is without a doubt worth waiting for. However, there is something to be said about kids who want to be here.

I would not wait past April 11.

After our record last year, I'm not worried at all.

If we can get a decent 5th year post, we could be in okay shape next season.

Feliz was the leading scorer at the u19 World Championship. I'm not concerned about his ability.

How were Jevon Carter and Fred Van Vleets offer lists ?
