Yeah, I don't see any way that Trent isn't starting, and I don't think it makes sense to have him and Feliz starting together, because I think their skill sets are more similar than either is to Ayo or Damonte. I'd guess you'll have one of Trent/Feliz and one of Ayo/Damonte, and then they will sub for each other. Sure there will be some mixing and matching, but you'll want one of either Trent or Feliz in at all times because of quickness, defense, facilitation, experience/maturity, etc. And pairing them with the size/strength of an Ayo/Damonte makes a lot of sense.

Given certain situations, maybe three of those four play together for stretches, but doubt that will be a regular thing, especially with what we all hope/expect to get out of our suddenly legitimate bigger wings -- Tevian, Griffin, AJ and at times, Kipper.

Ayo is starting until he demonstrates he has no chance of contributing.

BU stayed with Smith long after he demonstrated that he had no business starting, and he wasn't the key to future recruits.

Trent/Ayo/Feliz could definitely all start and play together for brief periods of time. I generally agree with your post on combinations though. Starters seemed largely ceremonial the way BU rotated players last year.

I hope picking the starters is a tough choice for the staff.

By all accounts from the team practice;
Feliz looked like a Big Ten caliber player
Feliz looked like he has been on the team for a while
Feliz really took charge (insert El General joke) and was communicating with the his team

This is not an incoming Freshman. This kid has talent, is physically ready, and has played college for the last two years. BU has constantly talked about 3 guard lineups, with multiple guys who can handle and play off the ball on the court together. Trent was forced into the PG role due to Smith's inadequacies. Yes I can see him starting.

Who is the last player to come in with big expectations and actually meet them immediately? Ray Rice?

Rice had to exceed realistic expectations to meet our expectations. We're too optimistic when we talk about players coming in but the reality is that most struggle a bit in the transition because there are so many new factors in play. I'm excited to have Feliz but expectations definitely need to be tempered. I think he can play in the same lineup as Ayo and Frazier but that'll probably happen sparingly unless another lead guard emerges.

Starting or off the bench, who cares? (other than maybe Feliz). We've added a strong PG to the mix, he makes our backcourt better and he'll be in the regular rotation (at least 20 mpg, I figure).

Alstork had three years of mid majors. Do you really believe JUCO is a higher level of competition?

Alstork made his mark as a scorer in mid majors...it didnt transfer much. He really improved as a lock down defender and provided value, although his body language (fouls) was distracting.

Feliz as a facilitator (not just a scorer) ...I believe he has a good chance of adapting. dont expect 20 per game from him but if he can defend he will make an impact.

On a side note...was a little surprised that there wasnt a defender award at the Banquet. Seems like if its valued (and I think defense is valued) you would recognize that guy-s (alstork or maybe TJL, IMO).

Difficult to hand out any defensive awards when you give up the kind of field goal percentage we did. Alstork or TJL would have had to accept the award via satellite anyway.

Thank the Lord! lol but seriously best of luck to him and glad to know the Illini won't have to face him next year .

On a side note, any word on if Carson Edwards (Purdue) is going pro??

He signed up, but not with an agent.

Agree. Assuming Ayo is a starter (which I do but you never know with freshmen), Feliz’s competition for a starting spot is De’Monte, Jordan, Jones and Griffin. I haven’t seen any of the newcomers in that group other than highlights, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that a 20-year old Feliz who by all accounts carries himself with a winning demeanor would come out on top in that competition.

Somewhere between 3-5 inches short. Have you seen Jones highlights?

Gotta figure on one of Ebo ( first shot at it) or Kane. Need some height in the middle.

I was thinking in the future with Ebo at the 4 and Samba at the 5 and Jones at the 3... what an intimidating front line.

I wouldn't sleep on Damonte stepping up next year and grabbing his fair share of minutes. And AJ.

Ayo, I figure can break down whoever guards him for the most part...he'll be able to draw and dish, but shooting may be an issue. If it is, then it will be harder for him to get into the paint.

The good thing, we have a plethora of guards.

No chance that Ebo plays the 4 unless he develops some kind of offensive game. I see him as a back up 5 for his entire career at Illinois and maybe starter there until Kane is ready.

As already mentioned on here, they are not the same player. And I think putting higher expectations on Feliz is better than on an incoming freshman...even a 5 star

Unfortunately , Alstork was a big disappointment, yes defense was good, but I would bet he was a distraction in locker room more than was let known. IMO, he cost us more than 3 games. Water under the bridge, he was only option we had.

Feliz will fill the bill, and our guard play should be more than good, and rotation will be BU's main issue. Good problem to have. Now, how do AJ, Kipper and DMW fit? That will be on them to perform, and earn minutes. My hunch, DMW, is a gap player and will push hard for minutes. AJ better shoot good and consistent, or he will ride the pine by end of the season. Kipper needs to get his head out or he will be in same boat.

The new guys are hungry, know what it takes to win, long time till 1st game, but can't wait for them to get started.

Ebo will start at 5, and someone will have to push him out. He will be our biggest surprise.

I have and they are impressive, but they are highlights. Great athletes have great highlights. That doesn’t make them great basketball players. I’m not saying Feliz will be or should be a starter because I haven’t seen him play in game action. I’m just saying that it’s ridiculous to write him off because he doesn’t throw down dunks in a highlight video.

We haven’t had an athlete like jones in a long time and I’m excited to see what he can do. But I think a bigger reason we have not been good for so long is that we have not had enough tough minded players with high basketball IQ. If Feliz is a guy who understands the difference between good and bad shots, stays with the offensive system in key moments, plays solid and smart defense and understands time and score, then I think he has a good chance of being a starter and being on the floor in the big moments. I don’t know if he will be that guy, but that’s what he’s being advertised as and that’s what this team could use.

Have no doubt that Andres can be effective but believe he will have to outplay Ayo or Trent to be a starter. They need someone to back up the point and don't see either of those guys guarding the three. Jones and Kipper playing the three and four give us a chance to defend the post and rebound. TJ played along side Trent to free him up as a scorer but BU also said that was not the way he wanted to play offense. Not saying you will never see him playing along with Ayo and Trent but it will be to beat a press or protect a lead in the last minutes of a game. iMO
