Have no doubt that Andres can be effective but believe he will have to outplay Ayo or Trent to be a starter. They need someone to back up the point and don't see either of those guys guarding the three. Jones and Kipper playing the three and four give us a chance to defend the post and rebound. TJ played along side Trent to free him up as a scorer but BU also said that was not the way he wanted to play offense. Not saying you will never see him playing along with Ayo and Trent but it will be to beat a press or protect a lead in the last minutes of a game. iMO

Ayo is 6’4” or 6’5”. I think he could probably guard a lot of 3s. If you start three guys capable of playing the point on offense, you don’t need to have a pointguard on the bench because all three are not going to be sitting at the same time. I think that out of Feliz, Jones, Griffin, Jordan and Williams, the best player starts and you match up on defense accordingly. I’m not predicting who it will be, and I’m not writing any of those guys off yet either.

Great basketball players have great offer lists.

As a rule of thumb, I agree. But there are too many counter examples for me to write off a guy I haven’t seen play yet.

Not to mention that a guy like Jones may have gotten some offers due to athletic ability but might not be ready to step in as a freshman and be a difference maker. I hope he does because his ceiling is so high, but I’m not penciling him in as a starter just yet. Feliz likely isn’t a great player, but I’d expect him to be more ready for the step up in competitiion based on his maturity and experience.

This season should be really interesting. We can win anywhere from 1 to 30 games. I really don't think we'll win 31......that'd be pushing it.

Alstork had three years of mid majors. Do you really believe JUCO is a higher level of competition?

Not JUCO, but his years of playing international ball with the DR against some older competition I'm sure has helped his development.

This is nuts. Averaged 2.9 ppg in 12.6 mpg. That's not even in DaMonte Williams territory.

Very likely to return to Purdue. Conjecture is that this is giving him an opportunity to compete with top prospects and receive some training from NBA coaches. Then return to Purdue with a better shot at being a better player. At least that is how they are spinning it at Purdue

I'm assuming that they need to be invited, right? It's not like everyone that does this automatically gets a free eval and training. I could be wrong but with the amount of players electing to do this, they have to weed out some guys that have no chance.

Of course, you are only referring to the regular season, right? ;-)

I also see Jones giving Kipper a serious run for his money. It will depend how good this team really is at scoring. I know Ayo can and will fill it up. Will anyone else? I don't know. If we have the points from elsewhere Kipper is going to really need to work to see starter minutes. I can't wait to see the difference of he and Jones. But if we need points we need Kip.

Why would you think Ayo will score better than Frazier? Ayo has no points in his D1 career, while Trent has already proven that he can do it as a Freshman. Since most players typically get their largest jump from year 1 to year 2, it makes NO sense to me to have so much confidence in an unknown quantity yet have no faith in a proven value.

I don't think it's conjecture, it's the only possible explanation. Declaring for the draft is becoming "give me free coaching and critique." I'm guessing the league and its teams will be changing how they handle their pre-combine events.

Isaiah Moss's draft entry is another head scratcher.

At this point I see Kipper as the high minutes guy and maybe the high scorer. Frasier will get a lot of defensive pressure until Ayo and Jones prove themselves. I do think at some point Griffin will have a twenty point game because BU will stick with the hot hand. AJ and Feliz will also score at times and am not sure what to expect from DaW. He is not as long but moves deceiving quick and will shoot better than last yrs indication.

I'm expecting big things from DMW. He seems like a guy that BU trusts and he has to shoot better than he did last year. I think he will push for starter minutes most nights, though I think he seems like a great 6th man.

Tevian is going to score a ton of point at Illinois. He is such a good fit in Underwoods system. He can simply fill it up from deep. He is long enough to get his shots off. I could see him struggling on the defensive end early in his career, but he has the body to really put on some good weight.

I think one of the strangest things is how Trent fits in this system. He really is more of a get his own shot guy. Don't get me wrong, great player, great teammate, just struggle to see his role moving forward. I wonder how Underwood adapts his system towards trents strengths. Will be fun to see!

Stylistically this is true, but Trent is a mentality and attitude fit, and that's half the battle.

That kid is the goods. He's going to be a leader for this team on and off the floor going forward, I'm certain of it.

I think Trent is the type of player who fits whatever system you run. Skilled guys who can handle, shoot, play defense, and have tremendous confidence... what system would a guy like that not fit?

Just glad Whitman talked Trent into staying after almost cleaning out his locker for good after the NW game in December.

Did this happen?

Supposedly, Trent's Uncle had some words of concern on Twitter around that time. Whitman has basically adopted Trent and assured the family that he would "take good care" of him. He held the recruitment together after Groce left.

If this whole thing (football, basketball, other sports) takes off - and that’s still a big if although there are signs of life - Whitman will have a prime spot in the Illini HOF.

How does an uncle voicing concerns on Twitter translate to Trent nearly leaving the program? Sorry, but I'm not buying what you are selling, especially given Trent's very vocal support of the program through thick and think since he signed his letter.

About Whitman and the HOF, Right now he's more Javy Baez than Kris Bryant. Had bball made NCAAs and football .500, he'd have Bryant or Bryce Harper status.
