What’s the problem with Ayo’s shooting? He’s pretty good. Made 9 threes in a game this year. Had 4 in the state title game. Shot a good percentage this year. Good free throw shooter. Can get to the hoop which opens up his outside shot.

Whenever I see him, he shoots poorly. Saw him play at the Jordan Classic, and his outside shots were way off. He had about 3 maybe 4. With the awkward form, that's what concerns me.

So did reggie Miller and Jamal wilkes. I do agree that form matters but if it releases right when you let it go in hoops golf or whatever , it all about the end result I mentioned Harp the other day and compared Ayo to him. His shot never changed like some said. He just got better at it and Ayo will too. Harp always shot it the same.

Watch a little more, he's a good shooter. He's had a lot of great shooting games. Trent shot about 35% from 3 last year, I would expect Ayo's % to be similar, just not near as many attempted.

I've seen Ayo a few times and I would never judge him based off that crapshow of a game. It was just so odd and he looked completely disinterested once it became apparent that it was just a highlight game to display the athletes, with zero cohesion. His shot even looked much worse than usual but I don't think that was a true representation of how he normally looks. That being said, he's a streaky shooter.

Tevian would be about 15-20 spots higher if ESPN decided to rerank him. Just to show you how crappy ESPN basketball recruiting is they had him attending high school in Arizona with no offers until a few days ago.
I compare ESPN to MTV in how the trajectory of the channels has been.

MTV started out as a really, really cool premise with a loyal audience. Then they added some really high-quality original programs. Then it had a protracted falling apart process that ended with the channel cratering into something unrecognizable and completely undesirable. I think ESPN is partway through the falling apart process. They're laying off actual sports personnel and they certainly lost my subscription online - the "insider" articles were always marginal in the first place but after they gutted writers, I just saw no point in continuing to support them with my wallet.

They'll be there. It's an EYBL event, everyone will be there.

However, at least part of the staff is sacrificing the first day of the event to host Bryce Golden.

Here's the event schedule: https://www.d1circuit.com/eybldallas2018

They'll be most locked in to Mac Irvin Fire (Kahlil Whitney, Adam Miller) and Brad Beal Elite (Okoro, Liddell). Meanstreets will likely also have some players of interest, I believe DJ Steward will be on that team.

Plenty of others I'm missing.

Don't forget, we are national now! NY, FL, CA....what surprise could be next?

edit: let's not forget, though I did, international

Looking at a few All-Americans and their recruiting rankings (247). Carsen Edwards @ 118. Jevon Carter @ 299. Luke Maye @ NR. Keenan Evans @ 292. Devonte Graham @ 99. Mikal Bridges @ 81.

I believe that the rest of the All Americans are rated pretty high. But I find it interesting how low some of these All Americans are rated, especially Jevon Carter after watching him play.

Then you can't go to any of the games this year. ;)

I find it crazy that kids like Nojel Eastern are declaring for the NBA draft (albeit without hiring an NBA agent). Maybe it will be a good wake up call for him and others - there are too many players thinking they're NBA material when they're a ways off.

With the new rules anybody with any NBA aspirations should declare and get feedback. There is no reason not to.

Breaking down each program's 2018 recruiting class (so far)

https://bustingbrackets.com/2018/04/19/big-ten-basketball-breaking-down-each-programs-2018-recruiting-class/2/

For those who don't want to read the whole thing and only want to know where Illinois is ranked: 5th in BIG, 22nd nationally
Maryland is 1st, 7th nationally

"The Illini return a lot of talent heading into 2018 so roles might not be available for these three (Griffin, Kane, Giorgi) but they will be parts of the future."

Shows the research the author did. Not exactly a lot of talent returning in the front court, likely that Kane and Giorgi have roles right away.

He probably knows that BOTH Golden and Okoro are coming

Was told the staff is very confident they get a commitment from Mr. Golden.

Would be a really nice get. This staff is silly on these visits. Just really building a team here.

I just wish they would grab a 5th year big. It isn't what they want, but if they don't get the commitment from The Golden Ticket (C), they will look to grab one.

Agree with "would be a really nice get." WRT a grad transfer big, I suspect the thinking is a better one season payoff is not as valuable as a 2.5-3 season payoff. Obviously, depends on the specific kids, but Golden fits this argument.

He's listed on 247 as 6-9 FWLIW, with a very nice offer list. They also have 10 of 10 predictions for Syracuse.

This would be fantastic. Love the look of this kids game. Scorer on all three levels depending on who is guarding him.

Going off the rankings and players...once this class cycles through by year 3-4, based on only current knowledge and numbers, you gotta like the ILLINI class in comparision to the others.

Not sure I understand this. Why would this class, in 3-4 years, be better than those other classes that are currently ranked higher, when they are also 3-4 years older?

There are two ways to catch up to, and pass, our conference and national competitors:

1) start with better players coming in, i.e. out-recruit them. Underwood has done well to assemble a full class this late in the year, but it's arguable that it was made necessary by NOT recruiting better earlier in the year, or because we were farther behind in talent than we thought in the fall. Still, as well as he's done, this group is middle-of-the-pack in the conference. It's not likely, by itself, to be good enough to elevate the team a whole lot.

2) out-coach them, both through skill development and team concepts. All the experts say Underwood is an excellent coach, and I tend to believe them, but it has to show up on the floor. This next year will be critical, I think, in showing what he can do as a coach -- improving guys skills in the offseason, and (with a more experienced assistant coaching staff in his system), teach and refine his offense and defense. If the team looks more fluid and cohesive and effective at running his schemes, then confidence will build (or be restored) that he can in fact "coach 'em up".

But as of now, using the information we have, it's not clear that this class, by itself, will necessarily outperform the other classes in the conference, let alone be enough to elevate the program. I am hopeful though. Of course, that's all we Illini fans have at this point -- hope.

Nothing wrong with being confident! I still think it's a wait and see situation. It's obvious he really liked his Syracuse visit so hopefully they can pull this off. Hopefully this is his last visit too.

Hopefully he's (Jereme Richmond) matured and turned his life around. Maybe he has.

There's this quote from the Bonato article "Hopefully, from now on, his name is followed by stats such as "23 points" or "14 rebounds."...

... Check out his stat line from from 3/19/2018:
