Are we truly living in a world where Florida football is a backup plan to Illinois football?
For some recruits, probably the minority, we are

I wouldn’t read much into that poster. He is a Florida reporter and picks Florida for a lot of people to get clicks. My understanding is that billinglsey wants to see improvement with wins and I’m not sure we will deliver. If we don’t deliver, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended there.
New tweet from Billingsley. We will have to outwork the Gators . He obviously fell in love with Gainesville

I thought Texas has spring football? How do football players do both?
One of the criticism of Illinois football, the state that is, regarding development of players.

My kid plays on a 6a team (highest division) in Mississippi. He has had football PE since 7th grade and they are on block scheduling, but football PE is on both A and B days. This means they have an hour and a 1/2 of the regular school day dedicated to football. They will many times extend practice time past the end of the school day. It works this way if you play other sports as well.
They have padded practice in the fall, Weightlifting and Conditioning in the Winter and Spring with some padded practice in late spring. They also had a spring scrimmage. This year it was against the 2017 state champs. They practice 4 days a week during the summer with one week off.
He's a Senior in the fall and benching more than 400lbs. and squatting around 600 lbs.
They are able to play another sport, but my understanding is that they have to switch to that (sport) PE class.
This is no where near the level we were doing it in IL when I graduated in the early 2000s.
Hard for me to fall in love with that town. But it is an okay place
my longest one day destination drive ever in my life was Chicago to Gainesville with wifey and the kids , going to Fla for Christmas break, back in December 2009. We had to do the Christmas day gift opening so we didn't get on the road until late morning. We found out too late that Valdosta is a major stopping point for folks and every joint was soldout. When you get past the Fla-Ga line, its Lake City (think bad trucker 'ville) or its Gainseville. I gutted it out for another 2 hours and we hit Gainesville at 2 am. 1150 miles . nonstop.
But I have also done Chicago - Oxford , Miss - Chicago in one day also. picking up the lad from school Frosh year at Ole Miss in May 2012. I call that 2 destinations. 1250 miles in one day. did it once. never again.
I’ve done Chicago-Miami or Miami-Chicago a few times non stop. It’s a death wish. Generally have to stop for an hour nap between Valdosta and Gainesville
A whole bunch of 247 flips to Florida for Jahleel, plus a 'Bama offer.
Here's a blast from the past: remember Miguel/Michael Hermosillo, the RB from Ottawa who committed to us but chose to play pro baseball instead?
He's playing right field and batting 9th in his major league debut for the Angels tonight. Good for him.
his twitter profile pic is now from his Florida photo shoot....Hey, he is a kid. He will probably change his mind 3 more times. Not saying its gonna be IL but.....STILL SUCKS
I was there back in that day, and we had a thing called baseball. The "athletes" played football first, then basketball, then baseball. The rest spilled over into track to join us distance running geeks.

He's currently batting .333 (2 for 6). Beats a kick in the head.
if he can keep that kind of batting average he can make 24M a year for about 15 years.
you ALWAYS play baseball instead of football IF you cant play QB.
higher pay
guaranteed contracts
longer career
Less cte
Not disagreeing, but a slight nit pick: is baseball "free" or reduced? I thought only (on the men's side of the ledger) basketball and football provided full free rides, the rest were partial scholarships.
Baseball is not a headcount sport, so you can split the schollies up, but my understanding is many of the best recruits take up full scholarships.
Correct. Div. I baseball has 11.7 scholarships to give and those may be apportioned as the coach wishes. Typically a team will have 30 to 40 players on the roster.
Yup.
College baseball probably best of all for the free education aspect (if you're not a monster bonus baby), but looks like Hermosillo made the right call for himself.
That must add another dimension to recruiting.
"School X is offering me a 1/4 scholarship, can you beat that?"
