Any information is appreciated. I hope you both enjoy yourselves.

Still don’t have anything to compare it to yet but I left showcase feeling it was run pretty well. Sat next to a HS coach and he approves of what he saw too. Most of the players that stood out were WR and DB. One Jr to be QB had plus skills...every ball had tight rotation and had good velo...

That's good news. Maybe they've gotten better at running these camps. Thanks for the information.

Sounds like no commits this weekend, overall a disappointing trend here guys, class dropping like a rock and momentum gone

Just what I'm hearing, don't shoot the messenger. Hope I'm wrong we'll know after the next 3 quarters for sure

I'm not saying we won't start getting some more big name commits in the end. But even if we fill the rest of the class out with the same caliber guys we had in last year's class, its a big jump. 2 top 100 players is still a big deal for us at this point.

Kind of disappointed we didnt get any commits this weekend. Its all good though, im a firm believer that there are plenty of underrated 2 star kids who can play just as well or even better than 4 or 5 star kids. As long as lovie pulls in the right kids for the program, i think the coaches can coach them up to be a solid team.

Over/Under .5 commits this week?

After all the fuss about this weekend, you'd assume they could pull in someone right? Seems like every school we're competing with grabs a handful of commits after their events like this.

I think we will get one this week. I think we need one this week. The good thing about the weekend was we added a bunch of new targets, so to speak, a few kids who seem to want to be here were present. We'll see how that translates. The negative is clearly the vibe Friday night (I was told) was already there that no one would commit and it was kind of a downer.

Maybe the RB kid from Texas (Cumby) and one other on the half full glass side this week. Still time, no argument there

I would say Shammond is that guy. But these reports that Oklahoma is out working Hardy Nickerson is depressing. I get it. Hardy Nickerson is an all pro linebacker. He isn't going to kiss any high school kids butt. But there is a difference between begging for players and staying in their ear.

i'm just a long-time lurker, can't comment (intelligently) about any recruits and so forth, but in my view - if I were a top talent, the Illini staff would be an instant draw = all-pros, nfl coaches ....
if you are a great trumpet player you find a great trumpet teacher to study with
if you are a great ballet dancer you find a great ballet teacher to study with
if you are great 4* LB, CB, ... you find a great teacher = Illini staff
to be under their tutelage and development - then its up to me to make my goals happen
taking a team from meh to big 10 title games would also be a challenge to make my legacy
its almost a no brainer, esp on the defense side
i don't see why we cant or shouldn't land a team of high talent - why not a class of 10+ 4*s
at minimum, i'd give UI serious consideration
btw big 10 channel currently showing us vs #1 Ohio St - we will win (about to start the 8 minute drive)

Battle - I agree but think the trick will be to avoid finishing second in the recruiting process since it is a winner take all decision. Lovie, Hardy, Patterson, etc are certainly giving us credibility and runs at way more quality recruits than in the past. We seem to be making anyone’s top 5 or 7 etc we make a serious pitch to. Just need to close on a few of these targets with some set of factors a more recent winning program can’t trump us with

Also to add in, we are not 17 year old boys. We can certainly see the pitch of the NFL staff at Illinois. But until their players start getting drafted, which they will, its all speculation. If you were a 17 yr old 4* I would think it would be a tough decision; Lovie Smith and the NFL pedigree that hasn't done it yet but might vs. Oklahoma and all these guys kissing my butt, playing in meaningful games every year AND sending guys to the NFL.

Oklahoma has everything he wants. EXCEPT the rest of his teammates, and the possible glory of turning around a program. For a lot of dudes, that is not enough to keep em from the big boys.

What area of the country does Coach Lig recruit? I follow recruiting closely but the only time I ever saw him actively recruiting was the Blake Hayes recruitment.

Bottom line, the program needs to start showing tangible results.

The football training center is a start (although I'm concerned that we are merely keeping pace with conference rivals rather than truly raising the bar and surpassing them).

Winning games and putting graduates into the NFL are MUCH more important. If some of our freshman starters this past season show progression to All-Conference (or dare I say, All-American) status over the next 2-3 seasons, that will show future high-level recruits a path that works, and is worth considering.

Unfortunately, it takes years to dig out of a hole this deep.

Guess we're not quite as cool as I thought:D

I had to look it up too on Wikipedia😓! I wasn’t quite sure what to think of this new monicker at first but after being on campus and around the football program last weekend I have to say this is brilliant branding! The players seemed to have bought into this phrase and is part of their culture. As a coach, I know the importance of having an “in the club” saying that your players feel privileged to identify with. As I write this I look down and have a shirt on that my program uses to separate ourselves as “in the cool club.”

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Karen tonight. Seems like a tossup between Mizzou and Norte Dame
