Seems like a good time and place to post the updated 2019 Fighting Illini Football Scholarship Grid!

I'm toying with the idea of sorting it as a depth chart and including walk-ons who crack the two deep. It might get too messy, though.

Suggestion: this post deserves its own thread, akin to rbachhuber's hoops schollie grid & offers thread.

Peters has to be salivating at his targets in the passing game next year. All that WR depth, Ford/Barker at TE, and some good backs coming out of the backfield. And of course Mookie once he inevitably flips from OSU.

Roundtree won't count as part of the 85 scholarships if they get a medical exemption for him. Also the fact that he is not in school this semester leaves him out of the count. An exemption is not the same thing as a redshirt. It is covered by other funds that are looked upon as not part of the athletic funds.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering about this. I know we made this move with Brandon Jones earlier this Summer but didn't know if we'd do the same thing with Bobby.

Yeah, it's really good. It gets kind of lost in a thread like this.

USC Jack Sears is entering the transfer portal (all praise to the portal).

What are thoughts on him possibly coming to UIUC?

I’ve always been steadfast in my belief that you never turn away QB talent but in this case, I might actually pass.

If we carry CJ Dixon all the way to signing day, I think our QB room will be as talented as it’s ever been. I’d rather use precious resources in other areas.

If Peters bolts after this season, I wouldn't be adverse to picking up a grad transfer QB, but it has to be a one and done guy. Of course, a lot depends on how the staff feels about the QB group.

Yeah, signing Dixon is important.

I think we lose at least 1 QB this off season. If Dixon doesn’t stay, we will be in trouble. I think we still need another qb for the sake of injuries and such. We have some good distribution at this point, except at qb

Ah, that’s a good point. We may even lose 2 via transfer.

If we sign Dixon I’m still confident in where we are at but I’ve been warned that the offers for him are going to be hot. We need to keep heavy tabs on his situation.

Another red-shirt Sophomore with a degree? Is this common everywhere, or just at USC?
You think maybe it is part of the recruiting pitch?

"Yes we are stacked with talent, but why don't you come compete for a spot. We can put you on the fast track to graduating early. Compete for 3 years and if it doesn't work out, you can transfer anywhere penalty-free."

I read a quote in article about that QB, Sears, where the USC coach says something about them getting guys degrees in 3 or 3.5 years. Almost like bragging about it.."Yeah, our guys are getting degrees in 3 years...yours?"

If it helps us get top 200's recruits who either had minor injuries...hope not bad, or figured it out and wanted a clean start, and have 2 yrs left, I'm all in . Unless they have trouble issues.

Not anything I don’t think anyone doesn’t know or suspect but I’m told we’re being especially choosey with our remaining recruiting targets. A couple 3-4 names we heard as real possibilities early on probably aren’t going to be recruited much if at all going forward.
