I’m not sure exactly how it works, but the ESPN article said that the Jags were still on the hook for $18.5MM of Foles’ salary.

Bears are on the hook for about $16.7M per year over the next 3 years. Jags are eating close to $19M.

Apparently, the way it's structured, the Bears could cut him after this season and save $15M in cap space while only eating $5M in dead money.

Cribbed from VIV on The Deuce board:

"Between the money provided by JAX and the renegotiation done at the time of the trade, this is actually a really good deal for the Bears now.

Year, Cap # (Dead Money)

2020: $15.5875M ($15.125M)
2021: $20.625M ($0)
2022: $20.75M ($0)

So if he's crap, we can cut him after this year with $0 dead. If he's good, those amounts are actually really good for a starting QB in this market and the upcoming market.

I've done a 180 on this."

My sentiments exactly. Not excited about Foles, but he's a semi-legit alternative to Mitch. And he's cheap (relatively). Not nearly the debacle I initially thought.

Bears with a few signings over the past few days. They signed former Steelers CB Artie Burns to a one-year deal.

They also signed OLB Barkevious Mingo and S Jordan Lucas to one-year deals.

Geronimo Allison signing a one-year deal with the Lions for the league minimum. He's expected to compete for the 4th WR spot behind Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Danny Amendola. He may end up making the roster as a special teamer.

I think 9+ wins and he keeps his job. Anything less and he’s gone.

So, 50% seems reasonable to me.
I think you are probably right, but what if Trubisky washes out this season. That would mean 3 of his first round picks, all top ten in the draft, two of which he traded up for, one the number 2 overall, would be complete wipeouts. Also a second round pick on a TE that was a project that hasn't worked out. I wouldn't want that guy around anymore drafting for me.

I’m not disagreeing with you. But everything you say has already happened and the Bears higher ups haven’t canned him yet.

I get the sense that the Bears brass gave Pace a mulligan for the first three Fox years because a lot of the coaching staff and personnel decisions weren’t entirely his. After firing Fox, they gave him complete control. If he doesn’t have a losing season in those three years, they’re going to bring him back.

ESPN and NFL Network will combine on their coverage of next week's NFL Draft. The coverage will originate from Bristol with draft hosts and a limited number of commentators in-studio who will adhere to social distancing. Other reporters and analysts will report remotely from home. Goodell will announce the picks from his home in Bronxville, NY.

ABC will have a separate draft broadcast on Thursday and Friday before simulcasting the ESPN/NFL Network feed on Saturday.

Bears released Trey Burton on Friday. While they open up $6.8 million worth of salary by designating him as a post-June 1 cut, they're still on the hook for $4 million of guaranteed money.

They did re-sign Peoria native and Northwestern alum, Sherrick McManis, the longest tenured player on the roster, to a 1-year deal.

Bears sign Ted Ginn to a one-year deal.

They have also signed Tayshaun Gipson to a one-year deal and he'll likely be the other starting safety alongside Eddie Jackson.
