Have thought all season that Ayo would go but didn’t think Kofi would. Ayo has the work ethic and drive to make it and believe he will. When Kofi came he mentioned that he wasn’t having fun any more but saw how much fun Giorgi was having. This was his a prime reason for committing. Have no idea what the G league is like but would guess it wouldn’t compare to the fun of college. Toughest thing for Kofi will be the mental aspect.
I’m pretty sure it’s not for the benefit of the kids! NCAA rules rarely are. It’s so frustrating that a teenaged kid has to take a leap of faith and risk losing his eligibility if he doesn’t get drafted. Why is that rule in place again?
As I've said before, Kofi's age may be a factor. Life looks a lot different at 21 than at 18. He's old for his class and ready to move on. Anyone who went to college, consider your attitude as an 18-year-old frosh v. a 22-year-old senior. Night and day. I think if his advisors see any viable shot, he's gone. That said, I don't foresee a viable shot. Some clubs might take a flyer on him, but that's likely to be his top end in this draft.
I don't see the comparison. Your attitude when you were about to graduate and head out into the real world was changed because of circumstance. Kofi doesn't face that "I'm headed into the real world" circumstance. My attitude at 22 was the same as at 18, since I had 3 years of post graduate work ahead. Kofi is more like that. He needs to get into his undergraduate work, i.e learning to drill a 15' jumper and work on his hands inside. As I've said before, Kofi's age may be a factor. It’s to maintain more control over the kids. There’s absolutely no reason NCAA basketball couldn’t have a similar rule to NCAA baseball, where kids can maintain eligibility if they don’t sign after getting drafted.
As Ptown mentioned...Kofi needs to work on three major things: Inside footwork & mid range jumper are two of them. The third is weird because he's a big, strong individual. However...if you tape the games...go back and look at how many passes were thrown into him in the paint and somehow, some way somebody knocked the ball out of his hands. It happened every game. I can't imagine his hands aren't strong but something is amiss. If college players can dislodge the ball that easily that doesn't bode well for the pros. Those three things get fixed...he's a lottery pick next year.
With Greg Brown turning down the GLeague and headed to Texas, I'm beginning to feel that this GLeague raiding the HS's elite is becoming a lot of hype and PR. Not the right time for the NBA to be looking at increasing their budget. Just maybe this "$500,000" thing is a little over blown and the old $35,000 thing is reality. If so what effect could this have on Ayo's decision.
Thats something I think needs to be handled by NBA And NCAA if a kid is committed and signed to a college they should NOT be allowed to offer them a contract and entice them away from school.. if they offer them out of highschool before comit or a signing then that's fair game.. but after they do comit/sign it should be barred IMO..Nimari Burnett has turned down a G League offer and will take his Freshman year at TT.
Yep , $35000 over 5 months. I also wonder if the run of the mill players will even be paid unless the league ends the suspension of the seasonI don't think the 500k applies to someone like Ayo -- it's only an offer for elite HS kids choosing to bypass college. If Ayo doesn't get drafted, he'd be just a run of the mill G league player like anybody else.
I think he’d have to be getting kofi type feedback for him to even consider coming back. I think he’s gone and will outwork his draft ranking.NBCSPORTS mock draft 2.0 updated 12 hours ago has ayo going number 34 overall... I'm sure if hes getting feedback of being 28 to 35 hes probably comfortable staying in the draft... your thoughts??
P.s. kofi wasn't projected in the draft

I feel sorry for Ayo with all the expectations he has on his shoulders. The expectation should be when you are ready and the NBA coaches tell you are going to be drafted in the first round, you enter the draft. That may take, 1, 2, 3, 4 years. Who cares how long it takes. You are still going to make a ton of money. Not that it is expected you be one and done or two and done.
