There is Speculation that the Peevy hiring was not Dave Leitao’s pick but the A.D.’s rather, and was an indicator that he is on his way out the door…

Hence the mentions of a powershift at DePaul and their sudden rise to the top of David Jones’ list within one week of an offer 🤦🏽

btw, Peevy isn’t/wasn’t even officially supposed to start (University’s payroll) until September 1st 🧐

Peevy is the DePaul AD and not an assitant coach. Peevy just messin with OA on the David Jones thing by planting a seed with UK writer that David Jones is coming to DePaul. David Jones is an Illini.

FIFM 🤣

We are literally about to be re-living the days (like some sort of weird Deju Vu) of when SLU landed Darius Miles and DePaul got Q. Richardson and Bobby Simmons!! 😩😩😫

None of the recruits mentioned so far rise to that level. I suppose it could happen, but...

Either way, for the first time in a long time, I feel confident either way about our future.

This helps, I think, illustrate my point. DePaul had 3 players in the top 26 that year, while Illini had Frankie.

Ultimately, which team ended up better off?

Similar scenario with Missouri recently.

I completely respect and appreciate OAs contribution, but if BU is a top 25 coach in NCAA then he needs to be able to manage this scenario.

If OA is that important to winning then pay him. If not him then find the next best guy and pay him.

Side note: would anyone here welcome Snacks back with open arms?

I realize he’s not in the same stratosphere as OA. Self may be banned or bolt for NBA soon, and a Snacks return could become an option.

OA is a huge contributor and a real gem to have on the staff. His network is huge and has worked spades for us in assembling this team. I don't think it was ever in question that he would garner HC attention one of these days. If rumors are true, I think that one of the questions he has to ask himself is if he is ready. Has he learned enough from BU about assembling a program, running it, the X's and O's. But I think the bigger question is if the situation he steps into next is best for him. If he leaves now, he leaves the possibility for a national championship run and exposure as a lead assistant that comes with it. Maybe it's been there, done that with UK, but I don't know if as large of the success has been attributed to him as it would for this current team at illinois. But what opportunities might show up that could be better than depaul for him if we even come close to our goals...would depaul still be the best option at that time? Hard to decide between the real option (if really true) and hypothetical opportunities (which could be impacted by: do we achieve lofty heights? Does covid impact the season? Etc).

If I'm OA, I for sure stick around for the Ayo and Kofi reunion. Kofi's development is Exhibit A in OA's ability to develop bigs and impact a program. If this team proves it belongs in the top 10 and makes some noise in the tournament, the accolades will continue to roll in.

After that, I might stick around for year 2 of Miller and Curbelo. But if our rebuild is really complete and next year's team has successfully reloaded, then I expect suitors will show up from all over the place. At that point, I wouldn't expect OA to have any reason to stay.

OA might be the next man up for DePaul but I don't see them fire Dave this Late but a Key replacement is Nick Irvin, Dee Brown, or Roger Powell.
Man, that would be horrible. I would love to have Dee back on staff. Not sure what happened last time.

nick Ivrin would be my guess. Brad made it calling call to get Chicago Pipeline. Why not get the head of the family that has its hand on Chicago basketball since the 1980s. It shouldn't be that hard to sway him away from Western Illinois. Mac Ivrin Pipeline and his connection in Chicago could be huge. Also yet him try to get in the Meanstreets Pipeline (AJ Casey).

Wait....OA is leaving? Where is the source?

pure speculation at this point, and with the way Leitao is recruiting right now he’s not getting fired during the off season.. Peevy is going to give him one year to produce results imo.

Previously losing top tier instate talent was devastating. Still not good but BU and staff have proven they can get quality transfers, out of state, and overseas.
