Memphis fans should be pretty excited this week. Minott, Camden, and Nesbitt are committing in short order, and they will get 2 of those 3.

Their staff thinks it's 3/3.

Their staff is wrong.

Love the dramatic repeat "enter" keys, I20. From your mouth to G-d's ears. Every year i say why do i get hung up in these kids deciding where to go to school. every year i feel embarrassed that i actually follow it. every year i stay hung up. gotta work on my priorities.

Priorities? All Illini, all the time. :chief:

Is this a bad sign in terms of how recruiting Mac is going?
I don't think so. It's recruiting and no commit is secure until they sign the dotted line. I would think it would be mal-recruiting if they didn't continue to pursue key targets they want until one of them commits. Mac has options. I'm sure stories are right that Illini are a key player, but who knows where Mac will take his talents to next year. So until ink is on paper, I wouldn't think Illinois will quit pursuing recruits until then.

Unless a few people close to JN are lying, I'm not concerned.

Assuming we get a couple of our current Top 100 targets this fall, I'll be tempted to say that our recruiting has nearly recovered from from the Weber/Groce regimes. More importantly, we'll be back where we belong as a consistent and legitimate Top 10 national power. (And when you think about it, that's a pretty strong statement given we haven't played in an NCAA tournament since 2013.)

I realize we were consistently top 10 for 5 years in the early 2000s, but I'd be happy with expecting Top 25 and the occasional top 10 to start. Stacking another class like this will definitely put us where we want to be moving forward.

Andre Curbelo
Adam Miller
Jordan Nesbitt
Bryce Hopkins (Dreaming big here)
Mac Etienne

Would be a very good team. Add in some our vets, and we're going to be a top third Big Ten team for a few years at the least.

i mentioned this because I think it’s conceivable that both schools are selling him as a guard, and because of that, any recruitment of SFs won’t factor much in his decision.

Can someone tell me what the difference is between Miller and Nesbitt other than 3 inches? On film, they seem to have a similar style, both are alpha dogs, and both want to play the same position (though Miller probably gets the edge in shooting and defense). If you’ve got Curbelo at the point, do both play at the same time in Underwood’s offense?

Yeah, Curbelo at the point and Miller and Nesbitt as your 2 wings. If Hopkins came too he'd be the 4 and then Giorgi at the 5 assuming Kofi leaves. That's a heck of a starting line-up. Hutchison and Grandison too, plus Hawkins is 8, add a back-up big and that's one helluva 9 man rotation. Add Etienne and that's 9, all playing a lot, no one getting tired.

And yet, he mentioned that Underwood sees him being used in the same way they use Ayo, which isn't any different than what Memphis is selling.

100%. I was just referencing the posts that the overload on wings Memphis has might deter Nesbitt, which wouldn't be a concern for him if he doesn't see himself as overlapping with those players. I think Illinois is a better fit because I don't think it's in his best interest to try to be a PG. Everybody wants versatile wings in the NBA these days -- if I were him, I'd be solely focused on showing I can be that, rather than trying to prove I can run the entire show.

Anyone able to find a message board for Memphis? I like to check out what the other half is saying sometimes. I'm pretty tech savvy but cant find anything other than 247 and rivals

Goode, Nesbitt, Hawkins, and Mac might be a better class than Curbelo/Miller/Hawkins

Curbelo/Hutch
Miller/Nesbitt
Grandison/Goode
Hawkins/Coleman/BVV
Mac/Giorgi

Some question marks: who knows how exactly the freshman and transfers will play, but it projects to be another incredibly talented, deep team. Who knows how Lieb and Hamlin will develop, too.

Is there a Hawkins we are going after this year also?

It took me a while to navigate. Let me know if you need the exact link to the Nesbitt chatter.

Not out of the question that Nesbitt has told both Memphis and Illinois staffs that he is coming.
