I allowed myself to get excited for just a second earlier this weekend before realizing we were not going to get Tyty because 1. Illini football won and 2. I won my fantasy football game.

Haven’t had that much good luck all of 2020!

Looking at other options. We have R.J. Melendez, Mac, the international recruit that I can't remember his name, lol, and Wes Cardet. Looking at that list I honestly can't say that I have a good feel about any of them. I have heard antigua has connects with Melendez, where are supposed to be there with Miami and Marquette for Mac, however his waiting makes me think he is looking for something else. News on Cardet has gone cold. The international guy is getting more blue blood interest. I wouldn't bet my backyard shed on getting any of these guys. Just my imo!

Key to next spring could indeed be the transfer portal. Can someone remind us where things stand on the new/changing rules?

1. Is there a unique set of Covid transfer rules already approved, or coming?
2. Are the legacy transfer rules being relaxed even more?

I believe there is a no penalty transfer for next year.

First time poster long time reader. I do agree that missing out on our staffs top picks is a definite concern. The key is to land a couple top 50 guys year in and year out to maintain a high level of play. I am not a big fan of the transfer or grad transfer market. Those types of players have not really had a direct impact on the program. Stacking class after class with top players like Ayo and Kofi is crucial. Goode was a nice pickup. Getting Mac Etienne would be huge but I think if he were sold on illinois he would have committed by now. Call me bias but these kids were missing out on can step in and have a huge impact. We have a great staff that can recruit. Ty Ty could have stepped in with Curbelo and Miller next year and been a 3 headed monster. But Creighton? Not understanding that commitment to them.

I’m curious for our insiders’ takes on what happened this year overall. Is there a consistent theme or weaknes$ we have to figure out or is this just an unlucky run? I’m not concerned about the trajectory of the program at all but the misses certainly hold us back.

Creighton has been a better program than us in the last 5 years. Actually real easy to sell against Illinois right now.

Alright, some people are on here acting like Creighton is some nobody team... They finished last year at #7 and sent Ty-Shon Alexander to the NBA. Now they’re ranked #11 and have one of the best guards in the country in Zegarowski. Creighton is a solid program and has been better than Illinois in the past decade. Quit using crybaby hyperbole and acting like Creighton is Iona.

I understand that. But long term Illinois has a higher ceiling of achieving success then Creighton. Especially with this staff.

I want to puke
Losing recruits to DePaul and Creighton. We have to do better
Perhaps the players are lacking confidence in their ability to fight for playing time in our existing lineup. Maybe they want to be the big fish in a smaller pond.

if we need anymore bad news looking like UM might be in the lead for Mac
Like i was saying earlier. If he really wanted to go to us he would have made the call already. He has visited, he has numerous zoom calls. I'd be willing to bet a nice amount of cash this won't end well for us.

News to me as they haven't been on my radar. I guess they aren't a smaller pond?
