In regards to Clawson's record this season...Clawson lost his QB to Georgia (Grad Transfer)! Jamie Newman was projected by many to be the starter at Georgia, but he opted out this season do to Covid 19 and prepare for the 2021 Draft!

And his starting RB opted out as well!

Reminds you of what we've already been through? How? If Lovie or any recent coach had the consistency that Clawson has had we would have built a statue for them. And Wake Forest is arguably one of the only P5 jobs worse than Illinois.

I think that Clawson would be able to jump start Illinois. The ACC Atlantic division is a meat grinder and will literally kill your season if you aren't Clemson.

I think that, aside from maybe Wisconsin, the West is fairly wide open.

Point taken, and I don't mean to shame his work at Wake. However look at Wake's 20 year recent history. He may be a little better but there is nothing that jumps out and screams Wake improved dramatically. Wake has always been that snake in the grass team that can trip you up. Grobe had a decent 13 year run as well where he went 77-82. He also had an 11 win season back in 06. Clawson has done nothing like that in 7 years.

If it is Beilema. I will be rooting for Illini to get beat down every weekend. But will still read the board.
If it is Bielema I have to considering seeing a face every Saturday on TV that looks like any of us when we assemble something from ikea incorrectly.

Wake Forest is possibly the worst job in P5 - You are always going to be 4th in your state and people will always compare you unfavorably to Duke. It's one thing to catch lightning in a bottle and win every so often, but Clawson has consistently won at WF. That is awfully impressive
Not so sure.....from 2014-2020, Clawson had zero winning seasons in ACC. Best record is 4-4?

Please no! With Clawson as their offensive coordinator, Tennessee suffered its worst statistical offensive season in over 30 years.

His career record is 130-122. Not exactly lighting a fire under the excitement box. I don't love the Lewis hire, but I would rather take a chance on a guy who might energize our program with youth and energy. I would not want to make this decision (actually yes I would), can't please all of us know it all fans!
Well at what point do sacrifice “excitement” for wins and better results? Because Lovie sure was “exciting” and that worked out to be a dumpster fire

It is also different playing in the ACC and playing in the Big 10. There are more chances for wins in the ACC.

If Leonhard can bring a couple guys with him, I'd be excited on how the Illini will look next year and the years to come. Recruiting could actually be real, for a change.
Even though I really want a coach who is a guru on offense, I think this is a great choice. A 38 year-old, Midwest B1G guy, former college walk-on finally getting his scholarship as a senior, who played QB and safety in high school, broke records for punt returns, and worked his way to the NFL for 10 years, he is an up and coming candidate. According to Wikipedia, “In late November 2017 Leonhard was named one of five finalists for the Broyles Award which recognized the top assistant coach in college football.[16]” Our close friends are 40 year UW FB season ticket holders. As much as the Wisconsin fans HATE Bielema, they LOVE Leonhard. I can really see as the OP said, Josh and Jim saying ‘together we can resurrect the Illini football program.’ I would also love to see all my Badger friends upset that we got him.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Leonhard would be a great hire, IMO. Get some of that Wisconsin blood into the UI program.

I'll take consistency as a winning conference record...cant get too excited about being a " ho hum, we won half our games" coach.

If Bielema is the target, someone had better take scientific measurements of the size of the chip currently resting on his shoulder. It needs to be huge and he needs to come here angry and determined to prove something. Let’s not again be the Roth IRA for a 50-something brand-name coach already in semi-retirement mode.

People said the same thing about UNC hiring Mack Brown and look how that's ended up. Luckily Mack really wanted to prove himself again, lets hope Bielema feels the same if he takes the job.

If you use your SEC-brain to look at Leonhard, you'd be getting a guy who is winning the film room war within the conference week after week, and we would also be stealing a huge asset from the leading team in our division.

SEC schools don't always make the right hires of course, but that's how they think.

I'd be totally on board with it.
