That's not even funny...I realize you're kidding...right?

Even if the Illini aren't winning, we can at least say that it's a clean program. Illinois can take some risks in hiring (guy's probably going to be fired in 3-4 years anyway), but at least keep the program clean.

More than I would've thought to.. Fickell likes the Midwest.
This would be a dream but there is a little part of me that fears the Beckman/Campbell combo and who really was “Oz” behind the curtain. Certainly less so than that situation but can you imagine if we did that twice? Still worth the risk...

Excitement translates to wins with these young kids. I read your "Lovie sure was "exciting"" with a sarcastic tone. I hope I was correct in doing so?
Well, yes, sort of. Nothing he did was fun or exciting as we all know. But the NFL experience and name behind Lovie was supposed to be.

DD did that with the Tennessee job a few yrs ago and he has a $6.6 Million buy-out currently

Not saying it couldn't happen, but I would wager it is unlikely to happen. Illinois would have to pick up his $6.6M & pay him more than $3.25M, all while paying Lovie $2.3M not to coach.

That's roughly $12M for a coach and frankly, DD isn't worth that.

DD in the midwest may certainly be worth that. I'm 100% on the DD board.

At the time, Lovie's hire was a homerun. He also brought some real excitement with his coaching staff. Getting Nickerson and McGee was huge. None of it worked and that really sucks. I really thought things were going to be different. So, yeah, the beginning of the Lovie era was exciting.

I think a hire that relates to the kids they are recruiting is very important. Can the new coach win with 3* talent if he doesn't recruit well? Manage the game once he is coach. Maintain a clean program and can he recruit what he needs given our admission standards?

From the outside looking in, I would imagine JW can paint a pretty compelling story - he has the rep of being a supportive AD who will work to make sure a coach has the resources he needs to succeed. Yes the program has sucked, but there has been enough success to say the underperformance is more driven by poor coaching than by any inherent weakness to the program vs Iowa, Wisky, etc.
