I believe JW still has a trick up his sleeve regarding an OC. He will have a lot of cash to throw at someone and I suspect it will be a big-time P5 guy. LL is going to need help getting through the 4 star doors.
Win and they will come. As long as they maintain a good relationship with the in state coaches, it will be fine. I’d rather LL work with his familiar OC than he forced to hire someone he doesn’t know well.

If Leipold is the guy, you let him bring his current OC with him, big name or not.
It is entirely possible that Leipold told JW that either his OC is staying in Buffalo or is not P5 ready and he and JW consulted on who they could get. If this is the way it is happening, I really like it.

I have a pretty strong hunch the decision is already made and the details are just being finalized. I would expect an announcement in the next 24 hours (or after the selected coach's season is over). Only 1 de-commitment from the signing class, and Joriell Washington just signed with Illinois after de-committing this past week. That reads like JW has his guy.
So you think he told all those recruits who the next coach is in order to get them to sign, but nothing has leaked? Hmmmm

I would think Buffalo will try to keep the oc. Kinda worried me because their offense is definitely the more impressive side of the ball

So are we all tracking that Collier said Hayes-Stoker is staying?

“Collier said Hayes-Stoker told him he’s planning on staying at Illinois, which helped Collier stick with Illinois.”

There is wiggle room there but it would be bogus to say that and then not.
He signed. I believe everybody but Brenson signed that was supposed to

Well, just got the word it's 95% Leipold. Disappointed because I truly thought Monken was the right man for the job. When you're struggling with in-state recruiting, it's good to go back to the roots and the Monken family is the absolute ILLINOIS roots of high school coaching. I expect an announcement Sunday afternoon.

Apparently Whitman didn't even give Monken serious consideration with apprehensiveness around the triple-option, but I think that's a bunch of malarkey. Good coaches adapt to their players. Leipold is a winner, but can he recruit as a 56-year-old with no Power 5 experience? I have my doubts.

Anyways, like I said, Leipold is uniformly the coach and barring some last minute change of direction to Bret B. or the Wake Forest Coach, he will be announced on Sunday afternoon.
But Bielema is in Champaign with his wife, we were told. Awkward!

When someone joins doesn't equal how long they have been following Illini sports. Again, if I am wrong, I will straight up delete my account.
We typically don’t like people coming here and ruining our rampant speculation with real information. Kinda rains on the parade. But feel free to stick around anyway. A few of us appreciate the information even if it’s not always right. 99.99% of us have no actual information, wrong or right. If someone is bluffing it becomes apparent pretty quick.

This is all a ploy to see if bielema was serious about literally breaking down the door for the job!

No, you can't make the argument to just toss out anything that happened in D3, or a coach who went 3-52 in D3 would be on equal footing. That's ridiculous.

He doesn't come across as a goober, but he does have an accent. Why do you call him a goober? [Edit: I see you addressed that earlier while I was trying to figure out how to insert a video with the insert media button missing.] I'll let people judge for themselves:

Sorry, couple of hours behind. I watch that video, and I agree with Chief Gritty, goober, in a great way, really loved it! Honest, oh gosh, it will play well in Central Illinois, and with a lot of high school coaches. Will it play well with the recruits, no idea. However, with the new transfer rules, a new coach has a real chance to overhaul a roster, very quickly.

Clearly you're new at this. Being wrong just means that you have to turn over the keys to your beach house (assuming you don't actually own a beach house...not sure what the penalty is if you really do own one)

So here's a question for the group: Leipold's OC and DC at Buffalo are the same ones from UW-Whitewater.

Would we want them in those roles at Illinois, to keep continuity with Leipold's success, or would we want to try to use our resources to bring in more decorated people?
why would we want him to change anything that has worked well for him in the past ??
