Illinois 66, Purdue 58 Postgame

You know if DMW and Trent come back next year we could be very good. Covid will help Hamlin a ton as he will only be a Soph and I like Hawkins a lot.

you would have:

Trent
DMW
Miller
Curbello
GB
Hawkins
Hamlin
(And maybe something out of one of the transfers, BBV or even Goode)

I would not think Trent or DMW will be major overseas targets, so how knows maybe they will?
I thought DMW and Trent were seniors. Can they get another year of eligibility because of COVID or something? Given we only have one guy in our recruiting class, retaining them would be nice if it is viabble.

Graduate students with an extra year of eligibility from Covid year rules.

Kofi = 70 attempts
Giorgi= 12 attempts

Not even a valid comparison to use percentages when the attempts are that different.
Kofi shot 68% last year. You don't just forget how to shoot free throws. This team is just not fully mentally locked in and I really don't understand why. All they need to do is look back over the past 10-15 years. There should be a chip as big as a boulder on their collective shoulders but we sure haven't seen it thus far.

Mental. Gotta be in his head at this point. If it continues Underwood will need to decide whether it’s worth it to have him in during a close game. I think the best strategy is Kofi plays most of each half till the team gets in the bonus, then you think about pulling him and playing Giorgi at the 5 so teams can’t hack him on the 1-1
He's shown he's capable of 70% for a game...
He needs to lay it up softer without spin...in order to maximize friendly bounces.

1) Time to pull Miller and start Curbelo. Nothing against Miller. Curbelo is that good.
2) Kofi should be a "Hack-A-Shaq" now for other teams. If he keeps up this free throw shooting, we'll be in trouble against the contenders.
3) I take today's game as a good omen for the Northwestern game. With today's film, I think they come out with incredible focus and energy.
4) Where's Grandison? Why can't Underwood play both Hawkins and Grandison in the same game??

Re Curbelo,
I am thinking that I will be taking satisfaction (as a lot of us will) in being able to say "I saw him play as a freshman in college" or " I remember when he was just a frosh at Illinois...", that is to say once he realizes the stardom I believe is coming his way.

We should all just sit back and enjoy the show.

I mentioned it earlier, I sure hope they come back. 1.Our recruiting class for 2021 is horrible, thus far, Leadership, and heck skill. Would love it!!
Strange that you would say that. It looks pretty Goode to me.

Purdue is a solid team. Hung with Rutgers at the RAC. I can't determine how to feel about this. We blew chunks in early 2nd half. Can't make FTs. Win by 8. :unsure:
Rutgers played without Harper that game. That’s a big part of the reason for that.

At this point....is it a hot take to suggest granny style FT's??

Rick Barry. Wilt Chamberlain.

Only two guys I can recall shooting underhand for an extended period of time in the NBA. Barry was exceptionally good. Wilt was not.

Had to DVR the game tonight. Just got done watching it. My hot take for the night? Man do I miss La Bamba’s! I absolutely loved going there at about 1:30 after the bars closed in the early 90’s. It was a nightly ritual for my group. Place was packed with drunk people. It was awesome.
Oh, and we played like crap tonight and still won.

There's only so many minutes to go around. At some point, you need a tight rotation for guys to get comfortable. Guys who were playing were playing well so why put Grandison in? There doesn't always have to be a "reason" for these things.

I don't know what to do with this comment. The best guard in the country scores 30+ three straight B1G games, then goes for a "measly" 12/5/3.....and gets called out? For scoring less than 20?
Two straight games.
