I don't know if Miller is on the hot seat or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if IU goes after Beilein. I hope not, but seems like a good fit.

I think you're on to something. Miller's seat is pretty hot and Beilein's rep is outstanding.

He's 67. Not that IU isn't somewhere he can hit the ground running, but I dont see him taking another HC gig. I feel like the Cavs job was a personal test, one last challenge before hanging up the whiteboard.

IU has the money and resources to get it done, I just can't believe he wants to step into another high pressure gig so late in life.

He's taken a job doing commentary for one of the networks, I thought maybe for the exposure. You're probably right about the pressure, be interesting to see what happens.

It's more than pretty hot... Boosters want him gone. He's going to have to turn it around, fast.

Don't think it will be Beilein, think he's done with college. Some names that IU boosters are tossing around are Jamie Dixon, Jerod Haase and Travis Steele.

Those names are extremely mediocre, at least by IU standards. That being said, I'd love any of those hires for them.

Seems Christian wasn't the right guy, but BC is one of the worst P5 jobs. You're in an NBA town and on a virtual island far from any other school in a conference that's all wrong. UConn coming back to the Big East makes things even worse. Mark Schmidt of St. Bonventure is an excellent coach and a BC alum. I suppose Boston is a nicer place to live than Olean, NY, but you're pretty much starting with a blank drawing board when it comes to building a competitive ACC team at BC. Pitt has had similar struggles since moving to the ACC. Syracuse to a lesser extent, but what happens when Boeheim leaves (likely after next year when his son graduates)?

Hadn't even looked at this thread until today.

In the old Illinois coaches group, is Weber in trouble? He hasn't won yet this calendar year!

And Groce putting together his second strong season in a row. Does he get another P5 chance? A10?

Reading Goemaw they speak as if Oscar being fired is a formality at this point (btw Oscar is their pet name for Bruce).

Indiana boards seem to think Nate Oats should be top of the list aside from some who think it should be Alford, and others delusional about Brad Stevens, or Billy Donovan.

Weber's AD has explicitly stated that Weber is coming back next year. They said that they are pretty much ignoring this year due to CV and injuries.

I do not expect Groce to ever coach at a P5 school again. I don't see him succeeding at any level above "we play hoops because we enjoy it." He was exposed pretty badly. His game plans and in-game coaching were horrendous. His one skill seems to be that everyone likes him, especially moms. That is great for remaining on the list. It isn't a real qualification for a recruit that is trying to make basketball their career. It will win many non-career basketball recruiting battles.

You're being hard on Groce. He should have never been hired in the first place. I could easily see a lower tier P6 school giving him a shot.

He was way too inexperienced when he was brought in here. Heck, if he had some more luck on injuries and hit on a recruit or two, he would have put a few seasons of decent basketball together.

Don't under estimate the draw of previous P6 experience. Not trying to say he's going to be Duke's next HC, or that he could take a school BC from the CBB cellar to an annual spot in the top 25, but teams could do a lot worse than Groce.

Jim Christian fired at Boston College.

Only had 1 season where the Eagles finished above .500 . Seems to be a coach better suited for the MAC then a Power 5 school like TCU or BC.

Some of the names being rumored for the BC job:

Saw mention of an interesting dark horse candidate for BC job — Dennis Gates. In only his second season at Cleveland State, but won Horizon COY last year after leading them to 7 conf wins — most since 2014. This year has them at 15-3 in conference. Was assistant at FSU for about 7 years, so he knows ACC and was a top recruiter there. And his wife is Senior Associate AD at BC.

And one of the very best recruiters in the country. Didn't realize he was having so much success at Cleveland State.

I am hesitant to even say it about a guy who could eat our lunch in Chicago, but Indiana would be wise to look in that direction potentially.

Curious why you think that? The last two years are the worst two year stretch in KSU history. This season is the worst KSU season in about 80 years and counting.

They are young, with only 3 or 4 upper classmen, but that’s because half the team transferred out, and I’m sure there will be more transfers this year.

They have the worst recruiting class coming in of all the P5 teams as well as the AAC, and Big East.

What‘s the AD going to do? How many transfers out are needed before he is forced to pull the plug?

Affirmatively stating Bruce will be the coach next year, or the old "dreaded vote of confidence"? You be the judge.

With only two years left on his deal and nothing in the pipeline recruiting-wise it sure looks like the end of the line to me. Bruce did better there than I expected, credit where it's due, but I would have to think a place like K-State has higher expectations than this.

Thankfully Chester Frazier pulled the ripcord at the right time and is now safely on a good project at Virginia Tech. It's bias speaking of course, but I am inclined to give him a lot of credit for Bruce's ability to build a team that suited the way he wants to play.

The AD saying 'I'm not thinking of making a change" could augur a "voluntary" retirement for Bruce, who will be 65 when next season starts. Recruiting gets awfully tough at that age if you're not a legendary coach or at a program that recruits itself. He's older than Lou was when he "retired" from here.

Bruce has been at K-State for nine years, same as he was here, plus five more at SIU. Won titles at all three places, with five titles overall, and had some success with USA Basketball. He had some good years in Manhattan and broke KU's conference title streak. I could see the AD doing the decent thing and portraying Bruce's departure as one that's purely on his own terms. Like Lou, he could come back at a school where top-notch recruiting isn't essential if he still has the hunger to coach.

I think Groce is a really high-quality dude. Hope he gets another shot.

Two bits of news involving coaches came out yesterday:

-Wichita State has removed the interim tag from Isaac Brown, making him the permanent head coach. Brown has verbally agreed to a 5-year deal reportedly worth $6 million. The Shockers are currently atop the AAC standings (by win percentage over Houston) and are in the mix for an NCAA tournament berth.
-New Mexico announced that Paul Weir will not return as coach of the Lobos at the end of the season though he will coach the team in their regular-season finale against Colorado State and in the Mountain West tournament. Weir is in his 4th season in Albuquerque and has had diminishing returns since his first season when the team went 19-15 overall and finished 3rd in the Mountain West. This season, the Lobos are 6-14 overall and 2-14 in the Mountain West, currently sitting in last place in the conference.
