Not sure what has to do with the DL other than they will probably be good at playing to their assignments which you have to vs the option and of course they see it every day in practice.
It could be in regards to the TE coach we just hired like an hour before the DL coach. He just came from AFA

The Jamison hire looks like a good — young and hopefully an up and comer, and IL connections. The Miller hire is a little more difficult to understand, especially as TE coach. I know people on here have suggested that CP not the best position coach from a coaching perspective. Any chance part of the reason for Miller is to help develop CP as RB coach?

No position coach is brought in to help develop another position coach....

Just realized like Jamison that Bart Miller coached at Air Force too (though different years). Interestingly, he coached TEs — Ben’s new responsibility at Illinois.

Only thought his ties were to the Naval Academy. Question for the OP- How do the others come in?
Not original poster, but looks like in 2017 the Patriots trained/practiced at Air Force Academy the week between a road game in Denver and a game in Mexico City. Not sure of the connection prior to that, but AF coach spoke to Pats’ team then.

Nothing substantial to add here. It sure seems like these are very strong hires. Miller in particular has a ton of experience, enough to easily be the STC and/or RB coach, hell maybe even a AHC. Interesting that he's TE coach. I'm guessing he'll be a jack of all trades offense and special teams guy. Jamison is more experienced than I initially thought. He has 4 years as P5 DL coach and another 3 at the G5 level. This staff seems to have a lot of quality experience, and it's encouraging to see that basically all the hires already have experience at those particular coaching positions. We're not seeing position coaches getting their first crack at coordinators, or a bunch of inexperienced position coaches.

Respectfully disagree. It can happen if it is a similar position set.

Ted Roof was hired by NC State as a DBs specialist to help teach Aaron Henry how to coach nickels. I know Henry has been mentioned on here a lot as a possible coach.

I agree it generally does not happen, but there are cases where it does.

Agree if you have a safeties coach and a DB coach who work hand in hand or you bring in a guy as an analyst or something like that.

Exactly

This is an unrelated position, so it is not likely you bring in a coach to mentor CP. I have no way of measuring this, but one observation I have noticed in years past is that your best offensive recruiter tends to be your RB or WR coach, while the defense tends to be DL or DBs

If I were to rank them and this isn't necessarily by the players they got but by their knowledge in how college recruiting works...
1. Bart Miller
2. Terrance Jamison
3. Ryan Walters
4. C Patt
5. Tony Petersen
6. Ben Miller
Obviously Bret is at the top dude just gets it but I wasn't sure if you were asking about just assistants or HC too. We definitely need to add 1 or 2 more recruiters and this staff will be an all around A grade in my eyes.

Yup. DL fairly important now a days to get a top teacher at that spot so DB coaching is becoming the de facto best recruiter on defensive side. That being said no matter who we get to fill the rest of the staff I think Bielema will be the best recruiter we have. He is great at connecting to the kids and selling a program. Huge for Illinois when the head coach is the top salesmen, haven't had that since....? White? Zook Fantastic recruiter but wasn't the main reason we got guys here.

Thank you. That's a pretty good assessment.

He was an OL.....he has coached RB and ST. I think he is versatile and BB think he can help in a variety of ways. Plus....as a former OL.....he should work well with our new OL coach.
Would like to see some known quantity recruiters in next couple of hires.

The DL and OL hires to me have potential to be absolute homeruns. Usually you think of the line coach as the older/experienced guys. We got 2 young guys who have a very good amount of experience and also may be our top recruiters. That's a killer combo for those positions.

Like Lovie's staff, when he hired young guys to try to boost recruiting, they all seemed to be very light in experience. These guys are more experienced than some of the older guys on the previous staff.

Lovie got 1 hire right when he was here and that was Austin Clark. Lovie has been exceptionally bad at putting staffs together everywhere he has been.

Really is remarkable.

What are your thoughts on the staff? You seem pretty plugged in. I find it interesting that so few of these guys have direct connections to Bielema, but really like the makeup of these guys. Good experience for all (except CPatt I guess) and a lot of youth sprinkled in there.

Most of them do have connections to BB in one way or another just not as recognizable on the surface. BB has stated in the past he doesn't hire his buddies. We have some really good football coaches on this staff that will coach the guys up. A OC/OL/TE all no nonsense hard nose coaches which we could use a little bit of. I wasn't as high on Walters initially but after listening to him speak and knowing that he was calling the D after Odom gave him the DC position I really like him. Former QB turned DB he understands back 7 play and how offenses will try and attack it. DL coach will help boost in state recruiting big time(well should at least) and he is a pretty good coach from everything I have heard. Excited for the rest of the staff to be announced.

Re Mike White - have you forgotten Elton and Delton?

I think you will see an immediate impact on the field. All phases of the game will be solid.

Others have echoed this thought earlier but I would really like to see one hire that has a strong recruiting background. Some of the guys already on staff can check that box but would like to see some cash spent to bring in someone who can really bring a strong recruiting track record to the staff.

Agreed. For those that are plugged into that world – who would an Orlando Antigua equivalent be. One that is realistic for us?
