The only one I’ve really had a pulse on was the DB hire. Think there is a chance Bellamy stays at WR, Aaron Motörhead might really be in play and possibly the broncos WR coach. For the last hire I think it depends on if he wants an inside LBs coach to go along with Buh or not.
I would really love to have Aaron Motorhead on the staff. He could really be our ace of spades.

OC:Tony Petersen
OL: Bart Miller
RB: C Patt
WR:
TE: Ben Miller

DC: Ryan Walters
DL: Terrance Jamison
LB: Andy Buh
DB: Aaron Henry

I’d assume Ben Miller and another coach take on the special teams and we hire another DL coach or LB coach
Not that I know anything, but I thought BB made a point of stating how much he valued the STC, and now it is a split position? Am I missing something, or am I simply overreacting due to lack of knowledge? I am very excited about the group as a whole so far, just confused.

Not confirmed that he won't hire a guy that is solely a STC, just my feeling that he won't now. The nice thing that if it becomes a split role or just goes to Ben Miller is that he has been a STC before.

I feel as if I read the STC would be split between Miller and Buh

Probably, think it just depends on the direction he goes with the last spot. He has a lot of different options which is smart, ILBs?, DTs? DEs? true STC? I really like the makeup of this staff.

Question about STC. Do they need to be well versed in how to kick a football properly? I know that there is much more to it, formations, coverages, etc. But, I would think, the skill/technique of kicking an oblong ball could be improved on. Do STC generally have this knowledge, or is there a kicking instructor?

Pretty much any kid who is coming into be a division 1 kicker knows how to kick a football and has more than likely been working with a kicking specialist in high school.

Not sure if it was just a title thing or not, but prior to having title of STC as well as coaching RBs at Air Force, Ben Miller was just in charge of specialists (as well as TE). So though he may not have kicking experience himself, he has worked with them specifically.

agree

I have to imagine the strength & conditioning of kickers is probably fairly important as well - but actual kicking technique is learned way before college . they might work with a team therapist about the mental aspects of kicking & punting , and long snappers as well . but the STC likely is 98% involved in getting the other 9 or 10 special teams guys identified and any plays taught

Along with each of their strengths...please and thank you
Had a little free time today so here we go.....This staff is night and day compared to the previous staffs, it is a true college staff that we haven't had since Zook.

Tony Petersen: A guy who knows what BB wants on offense and will be able to execute it. Plenty of experience calling plays and in multiple different offenses and will be able to adjust based of what we have on the roster instead of making the roster try and fit "his" offense. A guy BB can trust and a hard nosed coach which I like.

C-Patt: You all know why he is here. I have heard mixed reviews on C patt and wouldn't have been upset either way if he was retained or not. Think he is kind of on a one year prove it deal here. He should be a little better recruiter now that he has help from the HC.

Bart Miller: Young energetic coach who has a bright future in the business. Imo he is a great evaluator and teacher which is huge for the OL position especially at Illinois. Also a very smart recruiter who will help us open doors back up in Illinois.

Ben Miller: Another great teacher and another no nonsense guy. These guys will be coached up and coached hard which is what we are sorely missing here. Also you don't stay on a D1 staff as long as he did by accident.

Ryan Walters: A guy who is wise beyond his years. A really smart guy who connects well with the players and knows how to run a college defense. A great secondary coach who will pair well with Henry. I initially was suspect on him but once I found out he was calling the D for Odom since 2017 I was sold on him. Also seems to be a great motivator.

Terrance Jamison: Very similar to Bart Miller, younger guy with a bright future. Connects well with his players and recruits and like Bart will help us get back into the Illinois recruiting scene. Also a loyal guy to BB and another guy he trusts.

Andy Buh: This is the most interesting one to me (in a good way) a lot of experience and on paper probably the most overqualified for the position even if he was suspect as a DC. Has Special teams background like Ben Miller and knows the LB position and teaches it well. This hire has me question whether BB wants to try and bring in a younger recruiter to coach the ILB and learn under him and Buh.

Aaron Henry: Here is your guys recruiter. Also another BB guy and guy BB trusts. I think he is a decent young secondary coach and being paired will Walters will be huge.

This staff will coach the guys hard and are great teachers of their respected position groups. Will be a big change from the previous staff. As I alluded to a lot of guys BB trusts and know how BB wants to run things which is huge for a staff.

I see an immediate impact with this staff. Should be fun to watch. If they get the same time as Lovie things will be much better 5 years from now. The recruiting should improve tremendously.

As long as there is gradual improvement which I think there will be then they should get plenty of time.

I know Coach Sunkett came out early on social media and was against the Bielema hire, but hopefully our staff reaches out and ESL is open to developing that relationship. Too much talent at ESL (Robinson, McVay, Patterson, etc.) and too much history between the 2 programs not to be a pipeline.

Totally random question probably for 0440. Do you know if these coordinators like being in the box or the sideline? I doubt there's any facts to back it up, but when the OC is also the QB coach, I don't like the OC being up in the box and relying on GA's/etc to be the main contact with the QB on the sideline.

Great stuff. Thanks. Seems there are a bunch of great teachers on the staff and perhaps we need one more really strong recruiter-type

I know Walters was on the field at Mizzou, not sure about Petersen but he strikes me as a guy who will be on the field too.

I agree. Your QB is your leader and your most important position. You gotta be able to get his head right with someone when things aren't going right. Too many times it felt like Peters went into a shell and the spark went away.

Need to be less feast or famine with Petersen at the helm of the offense.

He is very open. It seems like BB is a little different from his days at Wisc which is where that tweet came from. It's a ton of talent at ESL for the next few years. A ton!.
