Ayo Dosunmu suffers facial injury

I had an orbital bone break from taking an elbow during a game at IMPE back in the day. I'd put money that's what happened with Ayo and he's getting second looks to determine how bad it is. Could be anywhere from a hairline fracture to detached. The former being something you can probably play with with proper masking but the latter usually means pretty invasive surgery. I'm no doctor and my injury was a long time ago so who knows what treatment looks like now. I just can't see another "facial" injury in that situation beyond the nose break that isn't the orbital.

Just watched the Izzo’s half hearted non apology in his post OSU press conference. Said he talked to Ayo so “that’s taken care of” like he’s checking a box. No remorse or any acknowledgment of his kid’s dirty play. I’ve lost all respect for that clown. From here on out I hope we come into every MSU game with a Mizzou/bragging rights type chip on our shoulder. And I also hope we keep pulling in talented kids and whip MSU’s @ss.

Sorry just now getting back to this. It is obviously more than just a broken nose but I don't expect Ayo to miss the OSU and scUM games.

Haven't waded through this thread, but I'm guessing he's got a fractured orbit too.

I think you can count on that at least for the next two or three years. Can’t see Ace and others on this team forgetting too quickly or letting those coming on to the team not understanding. And though BU said everything “politically correct” as he could (loved him saying something like, “so how was that Josh” as he walked out), no doubt in my mind that he will not be in a forgiving mood anytime soon.

So does Sissoko get no further punishment or did the spineless B1G not want to suspend him for the important OSU game — preferring to suspend him for the easier Maryland and/or IU game? If the latter, we’ll hear the reviewal process just took too long to have done anything before the OSU game rather than the truth that Izzo and MSU whined and negotiated their way to still having him available for tough matchup.

Subtle. If you're implying an injury to the zygomatic arch let's hope it's just a hairline fracture.

That Mizzou chip hasn't really worked for a few years unfortunately. I'd rather start a new extreme hatred. Maybe Kofi comes back just to waylay the entire Spartan program into submission.

Wow, just saw pic of Ayo’s nose during MSU game. Looked nasty. Surprised he was allowed to keep playing to be honest. Maybe he wasn’t having breathing issues so they allowed him to play.

FYI, saw the pic on Kedric Prince tweet. Not sure how to link here, but maybe someone more savvy can do so.

Would be good if we get pay back sooner. BTT.
I liked the edge Kofi had last night. His frustration showed and looks like he is in take no more !!!! mode.
No, that’s where Tom has set himself up. He knows now if we respond this year that guy will miss the night tournament. He’s such a !!!!!.

I'm looking for a W. Not street fight retribution. Apologies if that was my implication.

Hard fouls are a part of the game to most of us that grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. Watch any of the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Knicks. The difference between that style of play, and what Griffin did is quite different. Griffin's nonsense wasnt a basketball play. Stepping on a guy doesn't do anything. Its just a chippy disrespectful move.

Clobbering a guy at the rim, to prevent a layup, is in fact a basketball play. You may not want the game to be played that way anymore, but it's generally intent or lack of judgment for why people apologize. I doubt Izzo apologizes bc thats how he coaches it. No layups at the rim. Foul.

Underwood certainly isn't coaching his guys to step on other players, which is why he apologized. It's apples and oranges.
Griffin stepped on the guy but didn't put his full weight on him or try to push off.Griffin said it was not intentional. Many did not believe him including Underwood. Having been in a similar situation, I'll not ask for his head. Sissoko hammered Kofi in the face, and then clobbered Ayo in the face in the same game. Considence?

I would think that breathing will be an issue even if this is 'only' a broken nose. Combine the swelling with a mask and add Ayo's typical pace and you have a recipe for shortness of breath.

I too have lost all respect I had for Izzo. He used to teach young men more than basketball. The old Izzo would have already suspended the kid himself and made a sincere apology to Ayo, Coach Underwood, and Illini nation. Now his apology is so insincere he cant even pronounce Ayo's name correctly and wanted to tell us whata great kid his guy is. Hey Tom GFYS.

To paraphrase Lyndon B. Johnson, when you've lost Illinipimp, you've lost middle America.

Coach. "That was pretty hard foul. Are you okay?"

Ayo:. "no problem. I'm good."

Ayo to himself. "Man this hurts. He must have broken my nose."

I know he should have gone to the locker room for the night but got to admire his grit. This is Dan Hampton level.

I would love another game with them.

Izzo somehow, 3 years later, still can't even pronounce Ayo's name right. It's pretty disgusting.

I saw the game and it was not basketball out there. The refs lost control of it and we got beat up like it was some type of fight, not basketball as I remember the game being played. The conference needs to investigate this incident and seriously consider what punishment is appropriate for Mady Sissoko as well as the MSU coaching staff, since they are also responsible for how this game was played.
