It’s impressive to go in there and win without Ayo no matter what. It’s a great win. Full stop.

BUT, those inbound plays were horrendous and nearly fatal. Why we paused after every basket to let the defense set up is confounding. And the refs letting our guys get held and tackled just made it more maddening.

Hope Ayo’s back for Michigan. We will need everything going our way for that one.
I hope Ayo rests and gets fully heeled, then comes back for the BTT. Keep giving the other guys experience under pressure to ensure they are ready for the Dance. Since the regular season BT title is out of reach, there is no good reason to hurry Ayo back into action. Let him get used to playing with a mask in practice, then unleash the Kraken when it really counts.

If you just read this board you would think that after 4 years Damonte finally had enough of Brad Davidson and dropkicked him to cost us the game.

If we lost the game and Damonte got suspended the rest of the regular reason I would just shrug my shoulders and be ok with it. That BS he pulled in the first half on the hook and hold was one of the most garbage plays I have ever seen. Wraps Kofi up with two hands and tries to pull him down then had the nerve to try and point at Kofi? I was losing my mind when the announcers were fawning all over Davidson after that. The apology later did not make up for it.

I agree...a 2 seed is the floor now. We split the next two games or better and I really like our shot at the final #1. If we beat Michigan, our resume is better than OSU. If we lose to Michigan but beat OSU, we split the series and our resume is still better than OSU. IMO.
Spot on - we can lose the next two and we’re still a 2 seed in Baylor or Gonzaga’s region - if we split- we should be the last 1 seed and that would be huge to avoid Baylor and Gonzaga’s bracket

If he comes back next year (and at this point, why not 🤷‍♂️), he'll be playing against kids 7 (potentially 8) years younger. That's just weird.
I doubt Trice will come back. He will make money somewhere. I doubt the others come back as well. It would be their 6th year in school.

Agreed, he was doing exactly what that rule is intended to prevent, Guys get injured that way.
Thankfully Kofi doesn't retaliate. The guy has the patience of a saint.

I don't know what those announcers were looking at... very weird that they were so emphatic that Kofi was initially at fault. Davison was hanging on him like a little kid.

AWESOME WIN!
Maybe it's time to look at Curbelo's stat line a little differently. Yeah, he commits too many turnovers, but he also creates a lot of fantastic scoring opportunities. He creates point-blank opportunities for teammates in the lane, he gets himself layups and short jumpers, he gets fouled, he kicks out for open 3's. I want fewer turnovers, but I'm going to leave him on the court because of all the other positive results he produces---like WINS! And, how about that steal and dunk with 2 1/2 minutes remaining that increased our lead to 12? and the clutch 1-and-1s?

Great win. Trice was amazing. Kind of a Brandon Paul thing going on but in far fewer minutes.

The really interesting thing, though, for me, was trying to deal simultaneously with radio and TV coverage. There seems to be about a 20-second delay between TV and radio unless there's a TV break, which allows radio to catch up.

Anyway, I was following TV and got up to get a drinkie. Sat down, listened to radio and 20 seconds later I wanted another beer! Groundhog Day, Twilight Zone. Not a bad situation to be in.

Seriously, Illini did very well, all things considered. So glad they made FTs at the end.

I might be misremembering, but I don’t think they were saying Kofi was at fault and more saying how could a guy that much smaller than Kofi be doing a “hook and hold.” Obviously that was wrong, and I think their production team showed them replay again and said, guys this is pretty much the poster for hook and hold.

Sort of makes you feel for Nebraska, doesn't it?

I don’t care even a little bit about Damonte talking back. This team needs his toughness. We lose this game and some others this year without it.
But we almost lost this one because of his talking back, or talking first or whatever.

I have a feeling his off-season growth is going to be astounding in more than one area. These last two games really give us a picture of what next year could be if we get Trent+DMFW and Kofi back. We could continue to be a very dangerous team.
