Payne played a reserve role for the Gators this past season, averaging 15.7 minutes per game while posting 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. He was largely inconsistent from game to game, but he frequently came through with big efforts against UF’s toughest opponents. Payne was suspended for the first game of the 2021 NCAA Tournament for disciplinary reasons that head coach Mike White chose not to speak about further after the game. This came after Payne was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected from the SEC Tournament for throwing an elbow.

Not gonna lie. Hard time cheering for someone who does what he did in the sec tournament.

Have to assume the staff did their due diligence, kid has potential, hopefully he's matured after those elbows.
He was a 4 star recruit ranked 45th out of high school.

It happened three weeks ago... Not terribly excited about this kid at this point...
Staff has earned some trust, but what am I missing? Uninspiring numbers as a sophomore almost identical to his freshman numbers... and maybe the dirtiest “play” of the year.
Surely this will herald transfers out from some of our big men. Too many guys competing for too few minutes, even with Kofi gone.

Payne and Kofi at the 5 is excellent. Payne and Giorgi at the 5 is underwhelming. Not sure where Giorgi fits in if Kofi returns..

On a potentially anecdotally positive note, my good friend is a huge Tennessee fan and he said Payne was extremely apologetic afterward and that he thinks it's all good.
I'm not defending the kid's actions, but I'm willing to give him a chance to prove himself before I judge him harshly.
