If players want to keep coming to Illinois to stay for three years before jumping to the NBA, I could accept that.

pffft. No way a bunch of Kahoks could stand against a tornado.
Fletcher’s Ball Press was hard to beat. That Collinsville team with Redmon and Riddle was fantastic. Orr and Taylorville before my time.

According to 247 our recruiting rankings with Underwood:

2017: 30 (Mark Smith, Trent Frazier both 4 stars,
2018: 25 (Ayo, Tevian Jones both 4 stars)
2019: 69 (Kofi 4 stars)
2020: 16 (Miller, Curbelo both 4 stars)
2021: 27 (Good and Melendez 4 stars, Podz 3 stars! WTF?)
This really puts into perspective how much better Underwood + staff is at identifying talent, fit, and coaching recruits up to become huge contributors while being more malleable with his system compared to previous staffs. Granted, Frazier was a Groce find, but still, not a single top 15 recruiting class (and only one transfer contributing) and we end up as a #1 seed after just 4 years. Pretty incredible work.

Ayo is the 2nd highest rated recruit that Illinois has had since 2003, according to 247. Adam Miller is the 4th best, Curbelo is the 8th best and Kofi is the 9th best. Recruiting class rankings don't tell the whole story. This team had the most pure talent of any Illini team since 2005 and it's not even close.

Underwood's first class had 7 kids and only 3 are going to end their careers with the Illini (Ayo, Giorgi, and Feliz). His 2nd class had Kofi, BBV, Hamlin, and Kouma.

So out of 11 kids in his first two classes, 4 are going to finish their careers with Illinois. I have no idea what the national average is, but that doesn't scream special to me.

NBA-level talent but hanging around for long enough to show upperclassman-level decision-making and leadership. I guess I'd accept that.

So, unless my math is off, we’ve got 1 open scholly?
Giorgi, Ayo, Trent, Monte, Miller

filled by

Goode, Melendez, Payne, Podziemski and <open>

I want Miller back, but if Tre Mitchell says he’s coming, you’ve got to give him the ride, right?
Trent and Monte do not count on the shot grid I believe since they get a year... Someone correct me if im wrong. @TCTORNADO @Joel Goodson. @Ga65

It probably wouldn't be that hard to do (and I am not even very good at GIFs), but I have already done zero work outside of Zoom meetings today, so probably need to earn a paycheck before making any more gifs.
I made my comment specifically recalling one of your recent ones noting your decreasing productivity as the COVID months have worn on (which, of course, none of us here can relate to ;) ), in the context of the marvel of what BU achieved with his charges this past season.

I have among my 2Q2021 stretch goals the making of an actual GIF. Old dog, new trick.

Isn't that discriminatory against old dogs? 🤷‍♂️

I know nobody asked but am I the only one that just noticed that Morsell is in the transfer portal??
I didn't see that. It's big news. Ayala and Wiggins both entered the draft but retained eligibility. Morsell would be a huge loss for them.

Yes and if AceWolf wants to come back, he is a walk on, just like Frans boys at Iowa

Lmao can you enlighten me on why GOEMAW calles Bruce Oscar?
Apparently Bruce did some sort of weird activity at KSU where all of the program had to have a Sesame Street name, idk the details. It fell on Bruce to be Oscar the Grouch.

This is GOEMAW, so I have no idea what the reality is. It's so bizarre, it just might be true. At any rate, it is seriously funny, and, in the end, that's all that matters.

I know you go back a ways 47. Any chance you remember that '44 team at Taylorville led by our very own Johnny Orr? Arguably the best team to ever lace em up in Illinois. Won a state championship with an unblemished record of 47-0 (I think).
Coached by Dolphin Stanley I believe.

45-0 in 1944 with Dolph Stanley as coach. That record will probably not be broken. Apparently in those days, schools would ask other schools for a game in season that wasn’t on the original schedule. Hence 45 games.

Met Dolph many times at Rockford Auburn where I went to school. He had knowledge of the game way ahead of his time. True gentleman and great coach
