The few people who have this philosophy, I completely understand. We're fans. We get to think however we want to think when it comes to the team we root for.

I'm the kind of Illinois fan, for some silly reason, who gets offended when you leave MY team for another college team. (Self, Smith, Tilmon...) It doesn't have to make sense.
You're right, and I encourage you (all) to continue that free thought! That said, I can voice my tiredness of your thoughts.

I always had a weird feeling (based on nothing but a hunch) that AM looked at a guy like Cam Thomas and thought to himself "that should be me too." So, wouldn't surprise me if he went down there to jack up a bunch of shots.
He jacked up shots every time he could, whenever he touched the ball and wasn’t heavily guarded (and several times when he was). The problem is they didn’t go in as much as he would have liked.

Agreed!

I think the only I saw was he was upset looking on the bench in the second half of games where he wasn't getting run, and that is more of a competitor thing to me. Frankly, down the stretch Monte kinda regained his form and stole minutes from Miller. Not blaming Underwood really because I saw what he was doing but Ace was left out for long stretches. Longer then I would have left him because I thought his effort was always there on the defensive side.
It really wasn’t DMW who stole minutes from AM, it was Curbelo. Often had AC playing with Ayo and TF for long stretches in second half, with DMW pulling minutes from Grandison during same timeframe.

Yeah..nobody stopped Adam from taking shots. Frankly, I was impressed with his confidence shooting the ball even through stretches where he was missing alot.

Possibly, probably depends on his "I'm Back" statement. ( Told you it doesn't make sense)
Hey, you do you. Doesn't have to make sense!

Some of the churn on here is caused by those who want AM to come back and don't want anything to jeopardize that possibility slap-fighting with the "Bye, Felicia" crowd. The first group probably thinks the second group is short-sighted. And the second group probably thinks the first group is reeking of desperation.

Both groups probably overestimate the importance of what happens on this board.

**As much as any of us would have liked**

...that said, he's a high effort defender, can hit shots and is young. Unless he was toxic you'd be stupid not to want the young man back.

I want him back as much as anyone here. Was just commenting that the issue cannot be reasonably argued to have been lack of opportunity to shoot.

Why does everyone use the teenager excuse. This board is living proof that stupid stuff is said and done everyday. Give Miller space, and Underwood knows whats going on I would think.

Anyone know where to watch Melendez's signing? Was supposed to be at 11a on Facebook Live. Don't know the time zone.

Same question for Podz. Will it be online? Supposed to be at 2:30p. Don't know anything else beyond that.
Did Melendez sign? Not seeing any indications online.

This was how I felt about Ayo last year. And then he became a NPOY, made improvements in the areas they told him to, and here we are. This path isn't a guarantee to land you in the first round, but I'd bet there's a history of it working out for people.

I wouldn't be surprised either way for Kofi. There's arguments for both sides. It's up to him to choose the narrative he'll go with.
I feel like Ayo and Kofi are just completely different scenarios. Ayo is a guard and was already a projected NBA player or at least borderline. He had to basically show improvements on guard skills he already had, as well as prove he had the athleticism for the league. He did all that.

Kofi is pretty much a wildcard in terms of NBA projection. He's so different from almost every other center so I don't think anyone really has a read on how well he's regarded by NBA people, at least until he gets feedback this year. Also the skills that would make him "fit in" more with the modern NBA are basically completely new skills for him. I've never seen him take a jump shot. It's not like Ayo just improving things he was already pretty good at, it's asking Kofi to create completely new skills out of thin air. I just don't think it's realistic. Also, I think age and experience are huge. Ayo is age-appropriate for his year in school, Kofi is basically a senior playing as a sophomore. With his lack of actual basketball experience, he still has that "potential" label that the NBA loves, but with each year, he loses potential and gains age. I think this is the year where the his draft stock is highest.

Really? He's a classic, throw-back center, and there have been tons of those. He's bigger and stronger than most, has good footwork, and uses his body well. On the down side, he almost never passes out of the post, and never shoots more than 5 feet from the hoop.

Unfortunately, that's no longer a prototypical center in the NBA. Guys gotta be highly mobile, able to shoot and help spacing on offense, and come out and guard on defense. He's probably good enough to do the dirty work in the paint, defending and rebounding, and my guess is that alone can get him a paycheck coming off the bench somewhere, but I could see clubs taking a pass too. His touch around the basket is really good, but teams want centers who can shoot at least out to the FT line.

LSU plays basketball? Follow the media down here and you would think Football and Baseball are the only two sports.
Well local media might not follow them, but LSU has had 3 NCAA tourney wins in the time BU has been at Illinois — including one this year. AM would get plenty of exposure there.

I mean, he's a shooter, so of course he's going to put up a shot when he's not guarded. That was his role, but that's also not the point. He averaged 7 shots a game. Thomas shot the ball 2.5 times that amount (17 FGA). Even though Miller's effective FG was 3% better than Thomas', it's the latter who will be a first round draft pick this summer. And they're both undersized scoring guards with similar HS recruiting rankings (Thomas rated #22, Miller #29). I don't personally think that's AM's best path, but I can see why he would look at Thomas' experience and its impact on his draft position and tell himself he needs to go do the same.

Word here is they used to follow basketball, but when Rennie dunked on Shaq most of the fans just gave up.
I was a little kid at that game and if I remember right, drove home in a snow storm afterward.

LSU will need a bunch of people to jack up shots next year. They are losing 80% of their scoring, and their recruiting is down compared to years past. AM would definitely have an opportunity to be the man at LSU.

Before this LSU discussion continues - the person who posted it earlier probably only said it because this Twitter page posted it.

A quick scan and you'll see this page is a Michigan fan who likes to dig on Illinois. They also claim their "source" told them that Curbelo and Brad are beefing. Should we panic and discuss that too?

Are you the guy who said "source: trust me bro"?? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yep, we are doing this.

You literally replied to a post that cited 247 team recruiting rankings.

Tevian Jones, Alan Griffin, Samba Kane, Anthony Higgs, BBV, Hamlin, Kouma, Lieb. That's literally 7 players who will contribute almost 0 on the floor to Illinois basketball. And 1 who was a minor contributor for 1 year. That's A LOT of whiffs in 3 years.

Man, Underwood's talent evaluation record is just spotless.

Channel 9 Reaction GIF by LEGO Masters Australia

The difference, so far, between Underwood and Weber's recruiting is that Ayo and Kofi became Ayo and Kofi and not Richmond and Leonard 2.0, as college players. We'll see what happens from here.
you realize you can only play 5 guys at a time right? And Griffin was not a "minor" contributor. Not to mention it takes awhile for a staff to make connections in recruiting. The bottom line is BU inherited a dumpster fire and 3 years later had the second best team in the country. I'll take those "whiffs" all day.
