The way this is going, we could’ve had two new assistant coaches hired by now. We have now been in limbo for about a week. Lol
We outsiders have been in limbo, but I'd be surprised if BU doesn't have a good sense for how this is going to play out and hasn't already started implementing the contingency plan (if necessary). I'm expecting quick replacements if they leave (I'm assuming they will at this point).

I tend to agree with this sentiment. However I would like to think about the long term future of the program... If and I say if Roger has an interest in becoming a head coach which I assume he does or he would not be in this profession. It might be in he's interest to sit down and have a chat about long term goals. BU could be here a number of years or gone tomorrow. I would like to see more stability and have someone on the bench in waiting. But that is just me.
I concur! I want long term stability. I really thought Chin would for sure be around long time. Everyone knew that OA would eventually get another chance at head coach, but that would be his next stop, not a lateral move.

As for who we go after, I think the model is what you mentioned. Find STRONG/PROVEN recruiters, who have desired goals. Does someone like Roger or Mennenga have enough bench experience to become a head coach in waiting? I would think they have been around and next to some very good coaches and may be able to bypass the "Mid-Major" HC title for 5 -7 years, but then again, we have seen plenty of others try this route and fail.

I'm not interested in hiring another "Mid-Major" Cinderella success story head coach after BU. So, ideally you have his predecessor on staff, in line, and ready to go at a moments notice. Someone that knows when they sign the contract, they will be next in line. If they work their tail off to get the players on roster, when your time comes it is fully loaded with quality players and you don't have to worry about them leaving, because they were already attached to that Asst. who becomes HC.

It is really to bad we couldn't force UIC to be the trial Mid Major testing ground for coaches in waiting.

The flip side is you don't elevate an assistant to his first head coach job. Not at our level. Guys like Powell need to be a head coach at a mid major for several seasons and have good success.
In the specific case of Powell I agree with you, but didn't UNC just elevate one of their assistants to an even higher prestige HC job? And Tommy Lloyd just got his first HC job at Arizona, not a mid major. I think if we were to have an absolute rock star AC, I'd be fine with them being brought in with the understanding they'd be next in line. I do agree Powell is not there yet.

I think the delay in announcing information about Chin and Orlando doesn't bode well for us. Kentucky has potential reasons to postpone making an announcement. They've just publicly posted the positions and recently lost a play in a tragic accident. I can see why they might hold off.

We, on the other hand, have no reason not to announce that both coaches have accepted new contracts to remain at Illinois. Unless they haven't.

There are always exceptions, but they are not without risk. I think the preferred route is being at head coach at a mid major versus a long time AC being elevated. As for Powell, he's on a great trajectory.

To fulfill this mission, we don't settle for nothing but greatness. The reason why we acknowledge and confirm that sincere commitment to Kenny Battle, Kendall Gill, and others is because they were student/athletes who had outstanding success in playing with the 🍊 ILLINI. They not have empowered the UNIVERSITY, but others who were led to become a part of a great group of men and further a tradition that now has 💯 become legendary and easy 🙌***** but never duplicated. If you look at other Programs that is what they are doing-bringing in players that are solid youngmen that are GREAT LEADERS AND PEOPLE, that are well respected and genuinely interested in the development of their forever loved program 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 EVERYDAY BROTHERS4LIFE. THE IRVIN'S are a energetic, deep rooted and consistently a great organization that has flourished and developed s number of Athletes who have played for the University of ILLINOIS and in the NBA.

With this logic, we also have no reason to delay the announcement. The earlier we announce, we can begin our search for new assistants. I'd imagine a decision has not been finalized either way.

From what I remember, he and Kyle Wilson would spend time at the Newman Center grabbing dinner there often. My sister lived there and would bump into him from time to time.
Yeah, he was at Newman all of the time. I lived there for a couple of years.

We're not going to announce that they're leaving. And we can explore new hires either way.

In the absence of information, it's all conjecture. Still, the absence of information itself raises questions.

I'm guessing someone has an agent that has a mini-bidding war going on - I'm imagining an Ari Gold from Entourage kind of thing.

If they are leaving - it better be announced in the next 24hrs. Will be a bitter taste in my mouth to drag this on for this long during the heat of recruiting and coaching carousel. Shouldn’t take 2 weeks to decide...hopefully our initial thoughts are true that the longer is drags out the better our chances are.

You'll take away the biggest part of me
Ooh no, baby, please don't go
And if you leave me now
You'll take away the very heart of me

How could we let it slip away
We've come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes and we'll both regret
The things we said today”

Love old Chicago with Peter and Terry. Kath was one of the greatest guitarists. This is my favorite performance of 25 or 6 to 4

As to OA and Chin.. man I really do hope we keep them. *crossing fingers*
