As you said KY just experienced a tragic accident. Any moral and ethical responsibility would demand that Chin and Orlando respect that situation and hold off on making any announcement until Cal can get back from the funeral and have a discussion with them.I think the delay in announcing information about Chin and Orlando doesn't bode well for us. Kentucky has potential reasons to postpone making an announcement. They've just publicly posted the positions and recently lost a play in a tragic accident. I can see why they might hold off.
We, on the other hand, have no reason not to announce that both coaches have accepted new contracts to remain at Illinois. Unless they haven't.

I think you forget all that when money is in your face. I'd argue $ trumps all of thatThere's been talk on here about how coaching staff departures can potentially impact rosters and recruiting. That seems pretty uncontroversial. But isn't it true (to some lesser extent) that anticipated roster and recruiting momentum could also impact coaching staff retention? If I were OA and Chin, and I had any insider knowledge that Kofi is likely to return and there are multiple talented 4s who are ready to pull the trigger as soon as he does, I would need to at least consider the opportunity cost of walking away from a monster roster that I helped build. Last year did not end the way any of us wanted. If there is a chance to coach a roster that could be even stronger than that one, it should be a little easier to convince me to stay to reap the full fruits of my labor.

The recruiting cycle for this year is closed, so OA and Chin won’t really be able to flex their recruiting muscles, and UK is far from guaranteed of having a successful season, at least by their standards, next year. If that happens, things could get pretty uncomfortable for Cal in Lexington and he may bail, never giving his Ace assistants a chance to bring in blue chippers.
Here, we’ve got stability, should have a good team next year, potentially a great team if Kofi returns and we snag a quality 4, and a great start on the 2022 class already.
