Never in the history of sports fandom anywhere has the topic of Assistant Coaches been debated more lustfully and intelligently than right here. Two big thumbs up to Illini Nation once again.

Why such enthusiasm over ‘Assistants’? This issue is seen as a Rorschach test for the health and future of the program. And, in fact, it is. To some degree.

Still, the foundational layers of the Head Coach and Athletic Director remain the most important. Everyone is replaceable. But the replacements of any part need to be of the same or better quality for the health of the machine.

Let's not say things we can't take back.

If we keep our current recruits: Bass, "5-Storr", AirPodz, RJ and Goode, they are going to make some new ACs look reallllllly good, whomever they end up being.

of all of the ex illini out there with resumes that could get them an interview even if they weren’t former illini, don’t think that CF is one of them. roger, jerrance, randle, yes. if we need to take a shot on an under qualified guy because they “connect with recruits” why not Dee?

i forgot... “the incident” that no one will talk about and knows no details about but has somehow resulted in his banishment
So you don't think Frazier is qualified to be considered for an AC position, but you would take 2 individuals with character issues and an NBA assistant with no college coaching experience over him? Glad you're not the AD. Most people assumed that Coleman was hired to please the Fire coaches. He still hasn't shown he would be a better hire than Frazier. Maybe it's time to hire assistants that don't cater to one Chicago AAU team over another. I think the only way you get Powell to come to Illinois is the day he's named HC.

An offer? from one meeting? Brad has communicated with numerous different coaches.
Awful lot of smoke with at least one assistant spot. Speculation on names, though. I figured it had to be Frazier after meeting with Underwood in Chicago. If it's not, what are other names to keep an eye on?

The public facing Kentucky insiders definitely seem to suck at their jobs (not that Chin isn’t leaving). Based on that one free day of 247 though, that Kentucky insider seems to be fairly well connected

Brad Sturdy had a podcast yesterday or earlier today.......seemed very common knowledge that Chin was leaving. Maybe the info is there and just not announced yet.
Most people believe Kentucky will announce after their job posting has been up for the 2 weeks or whatever the legal timeframe is for public institutions.

Brad's known forever and I guarantee they have been working on replacements the minute this buzz started. He isn't one to sit around and let things play out.

Yes, I'd be surprised if Underwood didn't already have a pretty good idea of who will be his assistants next season.
