I didn't say it was a "slam dunk"...and I don't think anyone else has said it was a "knock out hire". I promise you Chin and OA weren't "slam dunk" hires when they were made here either.

I said Chet and Mennenga would be fantastic additions.

Chet has an outstanding background, he is an excellent person and has a longer CBB background than Chin did when we hired him.

So my laughable take comment is aimed at the "meh" and "not excited" for Chet to return here is simply meant to get those to step back and give Chet the benefit of the doubt, instead of comparing him to our current opinions on Chin and OA.

We see so many comments about bringing back our alums as coaches, and then the one with arguably the best coaching history so far is named...we get "meh" and "not excited".

Chet deserves more respect.
I agree with all this. But I also see no credible info out there that says Mennenga is a legit candidate for one of the openings. Might be wishcasting here.

I'll even throw in a sweet Loyalty Hot Take for y'all!

A Frazier and Mennenga AC combo is better than Chin and OA.

OA was unquestionably a slam dunk hire.

I mean, OA was a pretty slam dunk hire at the time. Chin was a big unknown.

I’m fine with not bringing in a “Chicago” guy as an AC if it comes down to it. We ought to be able to land the type of kids we have in the Bu era (rated 50-100ish) without too much of an in. And it seems like much higher rated than that brings too much drama/headaches to be worth it, like AM. Even Ayo, who I consider a great, low drama kid had some fireworks, as I believe it was his camp that nixed THT. The 50-100 kids seem to have fewer handlers and fewer drama on average and I think we can get them without a good, charismatic assistant even without Chicago ties.

All I'll say that is that Hokie fans absolutely love Chester Frazier out here. I've seen and heard it myself. He would be a rockstar addition to our staff. One of the best defensive players I've ever seen play for us and it looks like he can coach it as well.

Get Mennenga as well and we're in great shape. Get it done BU and JW

I was too lazy to type out some of the things about Chet from his KSU time with Weber....so here is his experience breakdown fromt he VT site:

With the Hokies: Frazier has had a knack of developing talent in his coaching tenure and that has rung true so far his first two years in Blacksburg, helping Keve Aluma break out for an All-ACC season in 2020-21 and Wabissa Bede owning the sixth-best assist-turnover ratio in the country (3.34) in 2019-20. Frazier, a tremendous scouter, was also fundamental in Tech’s upset wins over then-No. 3 Villanova in 2020-21 and then-No. 3 Michigan State in 2019-20. He was vital in breaking the ACC record for most 3-pointers made in a game with 21 in 2019-20, as well as getting the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament in 2020-21 to extend their streak to a school-record four straight appearances.

"Following the 2015-16 season, Frazier was one of just six power conference assistant coaches selected to the 2016 Under Armour 30-under-30 Team presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) at the Final Four in Houston." ---- Boom.

So... is today the day that all the big news is supposed to break?

Is it a coincidence that Weber’s teams have been 11-21 and 9-20 in the two years since Chet left KSU?? Asking for a friend.
Probably has something to do with it. He’s following his pattern here without a Jerrence Howard to get him nba level talent. I wish this would have happened a month ago. Jerrance could have been on the table.
