I'll even throw in a sweet Loyalty Hot Take for y'all!

A Frazier and Mennenga AC combo is better than Chin and OA.

I’m fine with not bringing in a “Chicago” guy as an AC if it comes down to it. We ought to be able to land the type of kids we have in the Bu era (rated 50-100ish) without too much of an in. And it seems like much higher rated than that brings too much drama/headaches to be worth it, like AM. Even Ayo, who I consider a great, low drama kid had some fireworks, as I believe it was his camp that nixed THT. The 50-100 kids seem to have fewer handlers and fewer drama on average and I think we can get them without a good, charismatic assistant even without Chicago ties.

OA was unquestionably a slam dunk hire.

He was absolutely a big time hire....but there were actually several on here questioning his Calipari background and lack of success as a head coach, as well as some ethics questions.

So it wasn't unquestionably back then....obviously hindsight helps that evaluation tremendously.

All I'll say that is that Hokie fans absolutely love Chester Frazier out here. I've seen and heard it myself. He would be a rockstar addition to our staff. One of the best defensive players I've ever seen play for us and it looks like he can coach it as well.

Get Mennenga as well and we're in great shape. Get it done BU and JW

I was too lazy to type out some of the things about Chet from his KSU time with Weber....so here is his experience breakdown fromt he VT site:

With the Hokies: Frazier has had a knack of developing talent in his coaching tenure and that has rung true so far his first two years in Blacksburg, helping Keve Aluma break out for an All-ACC season in 2020-21 and Wabissa Bede owning the sixth-best assist-turnover ratio in the country (3.34) in 2019-20. Frazier, a tremendous scouter, was also fundamental in Tech’s upset wins over then-No. 3 Villanova in 2020-21 and then-No. 3 Michigan State in 2019-20. He was vital in breaking the ACC record for most 3-pointers made in a game with 21 in 2019-20, as well as getting the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament in 2020-21 to extend their streak to a school-record four straight appearances.

"Following the 2015-16 season, Frazier was one of just six power conference assistant coaches selected to the 2016 Under Armour 30-under-30 Team presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) at the Final Four in Houston." ---- Boom.

So... is today the day that all the big news is supposed to break?

Is it a coincidence that Weber’s teams have been 11-21 and 9-20 in the two years since Chet left KSU?? Asking for a friend.
Probably has something to do with it. He’s following his pattern here without a Jerrence Howard to get him nba level talent. I wish this would have happened a month ago. Jerrance could have been on the table.

I know, right? Thought today would be the day. I am looking for the announcements and then looking forward to Whitman acting swiftly on replacements

Never in the history of sports fandom anywhere has the topic of Assistant Coaches been debated more lustfully and intelligently than right here. Two big thumbs up to Illini Nation once again.

Why such enthusiasm over ‘Assistants’? This issue is seen as a Rorschach test for the health and future of the program. And, in fact, it is. To some degree.

Still, the foundational layers of the Head Coach and Athletic Director remain the most important. Everyone is replaceable. But the replacements of any part need to be of the same or better quality for the health of the machine.

I am all in if he will promise to give the opposing coach a hard chest bump to start the intros

For those of us in the laughable position of not seeing why we should be excited about Chester coming in as AC can you enlighten us to why this is a slam dunk?

Alumni with p5 experience as an assistant coach at KSU under Weber and VaTech. So that's not nothing. But it feels like a downgrade from OA/Chin/Gentry. Maybe downgrade was inevitable, but it doesn't scream great hire unless alumni was one of your criteria.

Looking forward to getting excited about Chester coming back.
Did I highlight the objection?
