Can we seriously please stop calling him Chet? It just sounds so wrong, and I have never heard him referred to as that. Perhaps those of you that are personal friends with him, call him that...IDK
Agreed - I'm going to start calling him "Ster" instead.

I think Ster would be a very good addition to the coaching staff, and I suspect that any knee-jerk lukewarm reaction from other posters is probably more about him somehow being "familiar" (even though having ties to the program is something that most of us value - kind of inconsistent....) and not some snazzy "unexpected wizard hired out of nowhere" like we've seen with most of Whitman's other hires.

Sorry, maybe it's more personal. The guy that used to beat everyone up on the bus was Chester and he made everyone call him Chet, then he still slammed your head off the window or seat.

He went on to be in a big time band (can't remember name right now) and OD'd many years ago, but geez was he mean. Never got me, but saw several of my friends get bloody noses or cracked skulls from him. Tough high schooler beating up 3rd and 4th Graders.

Reading the tea leaves, looks like Chester Frazier may be on board soon. Makes a lot of sense if you look at his recent liked posts on twitter as well (AJ Storr's mom was one).
Would love this move

Gotta say I'm glad Chester's name has finally been coming up. He's been paying his dues and moving up the coaching ladder pretty much since he graduated. Seems like he was relatively overlooked in terms of former players that are now coaches. Granted a lot of that was due to his youth, but it's nice to see him becoming a well-respected coach. Also, seems like someone that mentally would fit in with Underwood. Hard-nosed, take care of business type of mentality.

He played with my now 17 year old son back when he was about 6 at the father/son summer camp and swatted away my son’s shot about 100 feet, saying said “It’s real out here kid.” Has become family lore and a quote I have used with him and his siblings probably weekly ever since.

Why not Chest?

Chester, yep. Mennenga probably not happening and Tre has legs but according to LSU fans they are deep into the mix.
I never believed the Mennenga smoke. His name ALWAYS comes up whenever IL has an AC opening, yet he's never been a serious candidate. I think the local connection is way overblown with him. That said, Underwood better have *some* national recruiting guy lined up to replace what Antigua did for this team. It's been proven over and over again the last 15+ years that IL can't win at a high level recruiting regionally. It just doesn't work.

I'd love Chester on staff. Sounds like he's proven himself both as a coach and a recruiter (the latter to a lesser extent, but not to be overlooked). A staff of Mennenga and Chester I think would be equal at what we had with OA and Chin, so in my mind would be a grand slam. Sounds like Mennenga not super likely, but I still trust in JW and BU to make great hires to replace what we're losing. Keep our core intact (and so far so good) and we'll be just fine going forward.

Chester obviously is nowhere near OA in terms of a national recruiter, but from my non-insider view, he has some solid recruiting connections, especially out east and midwest. I think he's more nationally connected than most of us really know.

Everyone worries about our development of big's with OA out.....which is a legit worry....but our guard development under Chet would be just as...big.

Throw the money truck at Mennenga. I'll repeat my previous Hot Take....Frazier and Mennenga > OA and Chin.

I don't know what to think of Gentry yet. He is still a bit of an unknown in the beginnings of his AC experience. Obviously valuable.

If all three leave and we get Chester and Menninga I think we should add a CPL alum as the third.

I wonder if Stubblefield hadn’t left for DePaul, if Mennenga to Illinois would be more likely. Have to figure Oregon is fighting tooth and nail not to lose another AC this off season.

Losing OA and Chin is bound to have an effect (at least temporarily) on the program....but I'm going to say that Fletch has had a very important part in the development of especially our bigs and even our guards....some argue the X and O's will be missing with these people leaving.....but I'm thinking our strength and condition program along with the player development that many of our players have made over the past few years... that Fletch is a strong part of the overall recruiting process and helps more than people realize in helping with the X and O's part as well
if fletch is that good then kentucky will be hiring him also

It seems like if there are three openings…you have Frazier, big man coach, and Chicago guy. If you don’t hire someone with Chicago ties you basically cede Chicago players to Howard and Michigan.
