Guys, Jesus, we just hired an alum as an assistant coach. Please tell me what other other top program has multiple alums on their 3 person staff? I guess Duke but that’s gotta be it. It’s not a thing and I’m honestly annoyed continuing to have to read about it here. There are more talented and experienced coaches out there than Brian Randle and James Augustine and that don’t have to WaNt To Be HeRe or are aPaRt Of ThE fAmIlY. Please find a new slant
You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about concerning Brian Randle! Stay in your lane and stick with what you may know but your factless, uninformed pronouncement is just a misguided and possibly prejudicial opinion!

Throwing out a name here for reactions; and, perhaps, someone on this forum will have more information. Joining the Illini coaching staff is...

James Augustine

Quoting his wikipedia page (no citation given):
'On 20 October 2019, at age 35, Augustine announced that he would retire from professional sport. “In summer I thought it was too much. Now I am enjoying life after active sport. I had a very long career," he said.

Augustine has expressed a desire to be a coach in the future.'
I don't think he is ready for us, yet. Give him some experience and he might be in the future.

Would be leaving his alma mater, but he's supposedly a great recruiter and I don't think McDermott has been making his job easier lately...
The original tease from Dishwhite is big name "steal" from school starting with C...

Power 5 options...Clemson, Colorado, Cal

Big East adds. ..Creighton and UConn

I think Augustine should be involved in the program. Too green to start out as a coach, although that doesn't stop alums at Duke and they have a pretty good program, so I've heard. Maybe take Alexander's position if he is in fact promoted, or maybe assistant strength and conditioning coach. I am sure he could help in some capacity, especially teaching bigs. No one could run -- as a big man -- like James Augustine.

Also, Brain Randle is in second year as a coach currently with the Phoenix Suns who are in the midst of a great year. May be hard to convince Brain to leave the pros and Phoenix to come back to college and Champaign. Worth at least a phone call.
Amazing how many solid coaches start out as video coordinators. Gentry and Spoelstra come to mind. I'm guessing that role them to focus their eyes/minds on strategy and tactics.

While we are throwing alumni out...would love to get Latulip or Aaron Jordan back in some capacity (and no...not as an asst coach)

Aaron is currently living in Phoenix working for Yelp. He is happy in his position and, as far as I know, not interested in coming back to Illinois. Mike Latulip though, why not?

Well OP did say “steal.” I’d say hiring someone 3 weeks after he signs on at a new job would count as stealing. Think he’s from Rantoul too.
JW did steal Underwood from OK State. Not saying I'm not happy he did, but that shows he has it in him.

California and UCLA are major conferences that have some connections. Andrew Francis of Cal has some experience in Iowa. All UCLA assistants have some ties, the third being Indiana
