either that or we have to pay a premium to get coaches to sign up here. word is we offered oa much more than he signed for at kentucky and he turned that down.

i would not at all be surprised if it's the same number that was offered to Chin to stay. BU basically telling JW - if we can't get Chin to stay with the pool you were able to put together, I want to make sure we apply it fully to whoever else we hire to reduce the chance we get a repeat of what just happened. And, thus, goes up the market value of assistant coaches.

If we see a larger than expected number for the proverbial "OA replacement," would further validate that theory.
What is larger than expected? Cy is making like 225k. Best guess is that goes to something starting with a 7

So if CY can recruit 5 stars to FSU of all places, he's definitely gotta be able to recruit them to Illinois right?
Tallahassee has better weather, just as good if not better girls, is in the ACC and has a been putting players in the league recently.
This is one of those unfortunate moments where us fans have to realize the optics of our program versus other “non basketball” schools.

I feel like the general thinking is that we hired Chester because of his Illinois connection. I think the truth is, we were ABLE to hire Chester because of his Illinois connection.
and a boatload of Benjamins, lol

Since 2013, who recruited and helped coach up those players that made it to the league?

I'd guess 7 is the baseline at this point (i'm guessing he's going to demand more than Chester given his relatively more experience). Given OA is averaging 875k at UK, if we followed the same playbook as i'm speculating we did with Chin, then anything in the 8s would be larger than expected but not unfathomable. I don't know what the financials look like at VT vs. FSU and how much of a bidding war there could be, so that could distort things a bit.

Nonetheless, the market's moving!

EDIT: Some of the above comments are assuming the CY is the guy that's gonna close. I have no idea if that's the case.

If we fill out the staff with Young and Irvin, that's an A team. Very impressive regardless, but in the context of losing all our ACs, it's mega impressive.

One final thought: don't sleep on Alexander.
I do not think that would go over very well. He’d probably yell something like: get the hell out of my house or I am calling the police!

:p

He'll care if he starts struggling to pull his weight as a recruiter.
Idk I think dude is probably set for life. If things don't work out at UK he could probably try and get a lower level HC gig or if he wants to stay the AC route I'm sure there will be plenty of six figure opportunities.

You might be right, but I think he's about to be in a difficult spot. If we're really on the cusp of putting an Irvin on our staff, then Chin is about to get squeezed. Jumping up to UK has now significantly increased expectations and the pressure on him to perform. Facing those challenges without his go-to safety net (MIF) could be a brutal experience in the short-term.

I think the G League is going to dramatically alter college basketball. It will surprise me anytime a 5* signs a NLI and actually plays college ball.
