It is shilling, but there are 42 former Big Ten players in the NBA, compared to 74 SEC players.

Yup.

Back when I used to follow the NCAA to NBA route more closely, it was pretty clear that a couple programs (specifically Kentucky in the SEC) had out-sized influence on the totals by landing 1-n-dones. But overall, I'd still say the SEC is out-recruiting the BIG. 2021 is likely to have seven SEC players in the first round. That's remarkable. BIG only two.

Based on the data compiled by @AdDoBe, no they aren't really out-recruiting the B1G (except clearly in the last couple of years). Over the past 7 years since realignment, B1G and SEC are effectively tied for last place in NBA draft picks per team (and Illinois is not pulling its weight for the B1G).

Pretty sad that UofI is a goose egg. Should change this year
Initially, I wanted to compile from 2012 so I could at least include Leonard, but it got complicated due to half the big east schools leaving in 2013.

Podz, Goode, and Melendez can play the 2 or 3. It's positionless basketball remember. And when you're specialty is putting the ball in the basket like these guys shoot it.... you'll play. We need shot makers always. That opens up the floor. Yet they do have to earn it. We went plenty deep in the rotation this past season. We can truly play fast and hard the entire game if everyone can step on the floor and hold their own. They can get rest and be subbed out. Play hard then another wave can come in. No let down! We'd run teams out the gym.
That sounds good in theory but I think you will find that in practice its not so easy.

Right. This is a more useful stat, though I'd still argue that there needs to be an effort to control for the outsize weight of the blue bloods. They are outliers and don't represent overall conference strength. The lack of one in the B1G skews these results (though I imagine the conclusion probably ends up more or less the same, just to a lesser degree).
Yes and no. While the blue bloods likely account for half (guessing) of the drafts I think at least part of the point is that if you want to either play with or against NBA talent, go to one of those conferences. Now if getting drafted is your main point, then yeah, the conference isn’t the driving factor - it’s playing for a blue blood. But of course it is a self-fulfilling prophecy if the best talent decides to do just that.

Yea... the question is though, how many stay in the league after being drafted!? And the Big Ten has 44 currently in the league. Yes we are the 5th conference in terms of numbers in the league. But that's still a lot! And we are the best conference period competition wise year in and out usually! We beat up on each other!

Yianni.

I have nothing against Mitchell, he's being used. I just wish we'd move on.

I know that Yanni Cash did post the pic. I have this info flowing out sooo fast sometimes that I don't have time to proofread. When some words have a red line under it....I pay no intention to it. I know 86% of the people on here will never notice...or know how to spell it either.
