The DIA doesn't need Gentry to leave. There's been an empty AC slot for a while now. If they're going to promote Alexander, why haven't they done it?
My guess (and I know nothing) is that they positions are viewed as different skill sets. BU is looking for a top recruiter to replace OA. Alexander, though thought to be capable of recruiting, would be brought in to replace the skills that Gentry is best known for. JHWAO.

That's how I think of it, too. But from a hiring standpoint, it doesn't make any difference. There are two of the same position to be filled, regardless of sequence.

I'm wondering if they're not that keen on promoting Alexander, but are having enough trouble filling the second slot to want to have to fill a third. If Gentry doesn't skip, Alexander doesn't get promoted. So maybe Gentry leaving isn't a done deal?

Edit: I should add that I, too, know nothing. Just trying to make sense out of this inexplicable coach search.

Because then they don't have an official opening to chase after the Mennega's and Young's. Also it has been made pretty clear that Alexander will get Gentry's seat. That seat is not actually vacant yet.

You understand that there aren't actual "seats", right?

I could see it being that Underwood doesn't want both Alexander and Gentry in AC roles. If that's the case, he would need to know if Gentry is going back to Gonzaga before making Alexander official.

I think you're right, but it raises questions. Could it be that the whole "Gentry is returning to Gonzaga" thing was internet speculation the whole time, along with the "Alexander will be promoted to Gentry's position" thing? Could it be that Gentry has kept Underwood hanging this whole time, not knowing whether he was returning to Gonzaga or not? (I doubt this one.) Could it be that Underwood has known for weeks that Gentry is leaving, but still wants the Alexander promotion to be his third AC hire, to establish some sort of hierarchy? Is there another reason he'd want to make his two outside hires before promoting from within?

There are three actually. Anything outside of that has limitations on it. Gentry and Frazier take up two and the search for the third is in full force. Alexander is acting in the capacity of a full blown assistant currently but that would have to change if Young or someone else were brought on board. At least until Gentry is finally gone.

um, yes there are? if alexander was 2nd in line to get the AC position (behind Chester), then he would've gotten it by now. But, it's pretty evident at this point that he isn't. if, for some reason, Gentry doesn't end up leaving (which obviously is a possibility since it's not official yet), then it seems pretty obvious that BU doesn't consider Frazier, Gentry, Alexander to be the optimal group he wants.

Curious to see if we hear anything about Gentry soon

Our offer, which is substantially larger than Frazier's, has been turned down. I've been lurking since the Groce years and the craziness of those heartbreaks, and this is a very specific situation I have insight into. Don't know anything about any other candidates or direction Underwood is going with it. Thought I'd pass along what I know
