Yes of course, and that system works 100% of the time /s

The easiest way to fix the concerns in that article would be: 1) the NCAA allows athletes that have previously been paid to still be allowed to play in the NCAA, and 2) pay the athletes.

And I mean, considering the article literally states that athletes that don't make it through the English system just come over and play in the NCAA, I don't see the issue.

I agree. My guess is the G-League will win out, since it has NBA backing/branding, but they will have to pay the what the market will bear or they will get competition.
What WILL the market bear? Is there really enough interest in a league without any professional or college affiliations? It’s just not going to be good basketball (in my opinion) watching an NBA-style game with worse players. One of the things I like about college is the variations in styles and systems and talent levels — it’s intriguing and surprising. The NBA game, by comparison, seems relatively boring for most of each game.

Maybe it will be like triple-a ball, but doesn’t seem like the triple-a model will support the players making a half mill a year.

You can apply that what if to just about everything in life. What if the startup I founded fails and I am left with nothing? What if the Subway I work at gets closed? It applies across the spectrum. Life is filled with risks.
What if I get hit by a meteorite this afternoon?

Agree that the NCAA could fix the eligibility issue, but I think that would be a highly unlikely scenario as I don't see how this benefits the NCAA or even college athletics for that matter. And as far as paying the athletes go, who is going to foot the bill for that to make the payments on par with what's being offered for the development leagues? I'm not sure the finances will shake out. I suppose they could always jack up student fees, which I'm sure students will be happy to pay.

My main point is just that there will be winners and there will be losers with these types of leagues, and there are likely to be far more losers.

To all y'all very concerned about the G League and how it'll hurt kids, you're aware that professional soccer, both here and in Europe, has been doing what you're concerned about for numerous years, right? While you can argue there's a lot wrong with soccer, kids getting paid for their skills and being able to hone their craft at the highest level isn't one of them.

I believe European Professional Basketball Leagues also allow teens. IIRC Dirk was playing pro at 14.

He actually puts out more recruiting info than most.....they are incessant but I appreciate them. He's an asset to the board.
It's what I do. I know most of you go to bed around 9:30 pm. Earlier if your "grounded." Most of you live at home and your Mom/Dad won't let you be on the pc only two nights a week. So thats why you've fallen in LOVE with Judge Judy/My 600 lb. Life and Flip or Flop for comfort. Friday night you can only be on the pc 5 minutes...so read my posts and be all caught up. And with me...no whining!

The more professional options the better in my opinion. Hopefully, the G-league and these other options will capture the one and done guys and the players that aren't suited to go to college. I think it helps NCAA basketball. College basketball certainly wasn't suffering prior to 2006 when it adopted the 19 year old rule. And, it was probably better. It also takes the pressure off of the NCAA to pay players and allow it retain a semblance of the current model. The model must be working pretty well because we are all on here, and there are plenty of fans and plenty of kids that want to play college basketball.

Sure there are some dumb NCAA rules, and kids should be allowed to monetize their fame with some guardrails in place, but after all the players are college students at institutions whose primary mission is to educate.

My concern is that players will go from high school to the G League or any other professional league, peak athletically and then be out the door by 21 with out any marketable skills or a degree to help them make a living. I know it isn't my place to worry about someone else's life choices, but it does bother me to see young people taken advantage of.

So you're boycotting all NCAA sports?
