If he does well at the G League combine, there is a chance he could be invited to the main combine. This is essentially the last chance qualifier to get the invite that he wants/needs to get drafted.
I just don’t think he has any interest in another year of college ball. He’s ready to get paid. I’m sure he knows the risk/reward and is willing to move forward with whatever his best pro opportunity is.All he had to do was preserve his eligibility to come back for one more year, and this could have been a relatively simple process. Now, it's getting more complicated.
In my opinion, it's just about keeping options open. How he feels a month from now (if he doesn't get an invite to the combine) could be really different from how he feels today. In any case, what's done is done. No turning back now.I just don’t think he has any interest in another year of college ball. He’s ready to get paid. I’m sure he knows the risk/reward and is willing to move forward with whatever his best pro opportunity is.
Of course no combines in 2020, but in 2019, 11 players out of the G League combine(40 players) made it to the NBA combine. 5 or 6 G League combine athletes were drafted. If he does well at the G League combine, there is a chance he could be invited to the main combine. Given the looseness of rules lately and the likelihood that what he did will soon be permissible, who knows? But all indications are that he’s done here and moving on.So no one knows if his selling of memorabilia has made him ineligible?
They don't pay much where he will be playing next year, but yes questionable if he "really cherished everything accomplished in Champaign."Kinda questionable that he’s selling the piece of the net he cut down
As far as I can tell, it's the fact he sold his piece of the net from the B1G championship that has some people riled up.I don't understand why the conclusion to Kofi selling a bunch of his memorabilia is he must not have enjoyed his time in Champaign.
I see your point, but the whole team is receiving rings. If I were receiving a ring, I'd probably sell the net too.As far as I can tell, it's the fact he sold his piece of the net from the B1G championship that has some people riled up.
I honestly kind of get it. No one cares about random hats, shoes, and warm-ups. But the piece of net is just different.
Apparently no one knows. I don’t go those sites, but it seems like it would be fairly easy to see who’s selling their stuff and whether they plan to return or not.So no one knows if his selling of memorabilia has made him ineligible?
He's also 21 years old. I might have done the same at that age.I see your point, but the whole team is receiving rings. If I were receiving a ring, I'd probably sell the net too.
I think that's the thing. I also think when he's in his 40s and his playing days are over he'll wish he had that piece of net for the trophy case in his man cave. He's also 21 years old. I might have done the same at that age.
And....what if he sells the ring to?I see your point, but the whole team is receiving rings. If I were receiving a ring, I'd probably sell the net too.
If Kofi is truly leaving, he has nothing to gain from posting this. But he chose to. I'm going to just go with what he said rather than feed into random speculation.And....what if he sells the ring to?
No one faulted Dee Brown when he was a spokesperson for Ranch dressing.I don't understand why the conclusion to Kofi selling a bunch of his memorabilia is he must not have enjoyed his time in Champaign.
1. Since declaring, he's made multiple posts on social media reminiscing and expressing joy from being a part of the program. If he's really gone, there's no benefit in doing this whatsoever.
2. He made lifelong friends, notably Giorgi, who we've seen him interact with firsthand
3. Athletes get an absurd amount of gear. What he gave away doesn't even scratch the surface. He's even made posts of himself working out in Illinois gear
Selling gear doesn't take away your memories. I don't think anyone here thinks Ayo hates Illinois and he sold his gear before Kofi. I'm sure even Dee Brown did a giveaway at some point. It's not that serious
I can promise you athletes don’t care about the piece of the net except for in that specific moment. It’ll end up in a box for most. Pictures, videos, memories mean a lot more. Don’t overthink it.As far as I can tell, it's the fact he sold his piece of the net from the B1G championship that has some people riled up.
