Does possible Kofi return cool Garcia’s interest?
You would have to think that Garcia, who is most naturally a 4 (at least as I understand it), would like to play in a situation where he is guaranteed to not have to play the 5. Kofi coming back would cement that.

No idea. I have wondered the same thing. Maybe we were just wanting to start 3 players at 6'10" and higher? That would be a sight.

I see Payne as someone that can spell Kofi and keep him fresh. I don't think you can play Payne and Kofi together, but you can definitely put him alongside Garcia or as 5 with a small-ball 4 like Monte or Grandison next to him. I don't know that I see him getting more than 10 minutes a game most nights.

I can see a lineup of Curbelo, Trent, Hutch, Monte/Grandison, and Payne being a really fun change-of-pace unit.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Garcia + Kofi with Payne + Hawkins backing them up would be a nightmare for opponents. With Curbelo running the show, and shooters like Frazier, Williams, and Plummer out on the line, and glue guys like Grandison and Hutcherson helping on the glass and on defense with their length. That's a national title contender all day long. And it doesn't factor in the unknown potential contributions from a strong freshman class. That team is better than the 2020-21 Illini. I have no reservations making that claim. It is undeniable as far as I'm concerned.

Hutch isn't a glue guy.

The Transfer Portal with Do Not Contact Tag
I don't understand how (many of) you guys will instantly write off a guy as soon as Kansas or Kentucky starts to get serious because obviously, guys want to win and play with other star players, but when there's a possibility for the winning and playing with other star players to happen at Illinois, it's "well I just can't grok how these guys can play together"

I think it's been so long, Illini b-ball fans forgot that we used to have nice things for more than one or two seasons at a time.

Worried about Kofi coming back. Just a gut feeling, but I think he will go to Kentucky. Far from insider, but just seeing how it is playing out with entering the portal and the timing. Hope I'm wrong.
I've been hearing positive vibes but I have this looming sadness close by....at least we should know this week.
