TJ called Illinois’ pitch genuine.
“It was very transparent, very real,” the elder Harris said. “It was, ‘Hey, here’s the plan. We want to win a national championship. Here’s how we’re going to do it, and how your son fits into this. We’ve got the facilities. We’ve got the coaching staff. We have everything in place to go about winning that.’
“They’re hard-nosed. Gritty. Just dogs. I believe that’s what my son is. Being part of his team and advising him and helping him make his decision I truly believe we got it right. Like it wasn’t close.”

It’s not really close. Garcia is the real deal and is easily better than Payne also.
And this is coming from someone who really likes Hawks length, athleticism, and potential.
Payne is a 5. Payne was a crucial pickup.
Or vice versa.
Isn’t his defense questionable? None of the highlights I have seen show any defense and read somewhere it was a problem with him. Believe the coaching staff must feel it is correctable or they wouldn’t be after him. Can really see us operating with two fours but defensive scheme would have to change.

Or Garcia could be the 4 with payne at the 5 spot. Garcia provides the offense, Payne provides the defense.

We don't see many highlight reels featuring a guy coming over to help cut off a passing lane.
If his defense is indeed suspect, I feel like Coleman showed some good flashes last year, so maybe he can switch in more often when a tough assignment is there. We still have Damonte too.

I love Werner because he's level-headed. Rather all of the other schools have their 247 reporters selling their fans all of the optimism and only delivering 50% of the time.

Since they play different positions I would think it might elevate his interest. Kofi's mere presence inside will take some pressure off the shooters on the perimeter especially if he learns how to pass out of a triple team
Both give us an advantage...let it play out in practice as it should be.
If Kofi doesn't come back we will need another 5. Wonder if Cisse is still in play?

Yeah, but can he spell Giorgi or Brandin? Or better yet, Bezhanishvili or Podziemski?
Some of them are why we keep our cups in place.
If we somehow get Kofi back and add Garcia - Torvik has us jumping from #24 to #2. That'd be a cool place to open in the polls.
