Im just thinking rationally and say this was a Kentucky board and we had a transfer named Oscar Tshiebwe coming in next year as a junior transfer. Is he an All American? No. Can he and Kofi share the court together. I would say no. It didnt work with Giorgi and Giorgi has some perimeter skills as at least being a threat in attemting three point shots and being a good passer. You dont say no if Kofi wants to come, but why would he want to Kentucky and deal with competition and have to split playing time. Oscar is not a 4 he is a five. Besides that they have Bryce Hopkins and Collins coming in as forwards. I cant even remember who is staying from last year. Just too much competition for playing time and the ball. At Illinois he is the #1 option.

Aside from both being large, large human beings who don't block a ton of shots I don't understand the steven adams comp. Kofi is already a better post up threat than adams who was extremely reliant on great dump offs from russ and cp3.

I am bracing myself for a big letdown. Soon this thread will wind down and once that happens life will seem a bit emptier.

I don't really know what this means? A market doesn't really matter either way. As I understand NIL, players would stand to make the most money the most easily at schools with large, engaged fanbases and businesses willing to line up to advertise to those fans.

Do we have that? Yes. At the level of Kentucky? No.
Agreed, but a hell of alot more opportunity for autograph signings, and appearing in ads in a large diverse market like Chicago. The more sport marketers, sport agents, brand advocates, content creators, and sports administrators in a market the larger the earning potential.

I think Adams had much quicker feet, longer arms, and just as athletic at the same age. Let’s not forget he was a lottery pick, albeit in a different era. Post up touches are going to be few and far between for Kofi in the NBA. The only guys that get consistent post touches are the Embiid and Jokic of the world. Even DeAndre Ayton, and #1 pick is basically a rim protector/rim runner.

Here's what I don't get. Why do we assume the Chicago market always goes for Illinois when we know it doesn't? There are so many graduates from so many different schools here, and it's relatively easy to send kids out of state. That means any high-major program can have a strong following here, Kentucky included.

Also, the flight from Chicago to Lexington is easily made, and most certainly would be for people trying to cash in on a major client. Lexington is not the sticks; let's not act like an agent couldn't get down there if they really wanted for a lucrative enough deal. The internet is making the world smaller, not larger, so you don't have to be right at the source.

Todd Gurley got a 3 game suspension back in the old days, wayyyy pre NIL. If anything he might have to sit the first game or 2 but it won't be anything severe if he's given a punishment

A 3 game suspension in football is 25% of the season. That's equivalent to about 9 games in a basketball season.

At the end of the day, we're still the most dominant fanbase in the Chicago market out of all schools. Our numbers are so high, we don't need the same level of intense following as other schools. Even with that, we have a very active and fanatical fanbase. We just don't see the media hype because it's focus is higher for pro sports.

This article does a much better job of highlighting why the B1G is such a lucrative conference that carries more weight nationally. https://frankthetank.org/2018/05/18...en-graduates-live-and-conference-realignment/

More weight nationally = better regional deals. Essentially, we're large and spread out. It doesn't behoove you to be large and centralized following. You essentially want to meet the minimum threshold for garnering media deals and use the excess in another market.

You and I are essentially saying the same thing. I was countering the belief that Kofi should come back to Illinois because of Chicago when the reality is that agents and marketing opportunities would find him just fine in Lexington.

I know there's support for Illinois in Chicago. It's just not so overwhelming as to be a major tipping point.
