It was hilarious how many people I know that were "shocked" at the trades. Not at what the Cubs got in return but rather that the players were trades at all.

I thought it had been pretty clear for the past month and a half but... 🤷‍♂️
Casual fans, like my wife. Misses their personalities! WTF? But I do get it.

Heyward “injured” and now Deichmann is up.

I assume Heyward’s injury will be cured right about the time Fargas’ little hot streak cools off.

Similarly, I think Arrieta’s hamstring will flare up again right about the time Justin Steele is ready to enter the starting rotation.

Heyward can place a good chunk of the blame for the sell off right on himself. $20million going to a guy with a sub-.600 OPS…
Jason Heyward seems like he has done everything to try and get better. It’s not like he’s gained 30 pounds and refuses to work on his swing. He just isn’t good enough to justify the $. Probably not good enough to justify any $. Blame the Cubs for giving him the $ but I haven’t seen anything other than a consummate professional. He shouldn’t lose any sleep if he is giving all he has. If it wasn’t the Cubs it would have need someone else giving him a huge contract.

He had a long track record of a decent bat and outstanding glove. Unfortunately, the bat got worse and worse

J Hey is not a good hitter due to lack of effort. My crews worked on Sloan Park and I often saw him working with instructors in the cages long before pitchers and catchers reported each year. I respect him for that. He has always looked the part. He just can't hit.....

Yeah. I didn’t mean to imply there was any lack of effort on Heyward’s part of that he’s been anything other than a standup guy during his tenure with he Cubs.

He’s a tall, lanky guy with a ton of stuff going on with his swing. I think something got a little off in his swing, probably with his wrist injury in 2016, and he’s never really gotten it back.

He’s had his moments and was the best position player on division-winning team as recently as last year. But, he’s completely awful right now and is at an age where we can’t really expect him to improve much.

After he pitched batting practice to the Brewers last night, the Cubs finally put Arrieta out of his misery.

Good seeing Rowan Wick up and throwing well. He's been limited by health, but over the last three years, he's had a 2.55 ERA over 42.1 innings in the minors and a 2.61 ERA over 51.2 innings in the Majors. Hopefully, he can stay healthy the rest of the season and show that he can be a nice piece going into next year.

This team would be a lot more fun to watch if it weren't for several potential contributors in 2022 being hurt - Madrigal (although if he weren't hurt, he likely wouldn't have been available in the trade), Hoerner, Hermosillo (just got re-activated at Iowa, went 2 for 2 with 2 walks in his first game back, mashing 324/450/610 for the year, only 26 and plays centerfield - what am I missing here?), Maples, Nance, Wieck, Marquez. Keegan Thompson is stretching out and should be joining the rotation soon. (Davies next on the chopping block? He's been almost as bad as Arrieta over his last 6 or so starts.) Not sure why Rivas and Leeper are still in Iowa.
