Just short...but still a great showing. Best of luck to our Thomases in the Olympics

Its push comes to shove on the Korn Ferry Tour. Langley, Campbell and Guthrie are so far out of it that nothing but two wins in the last five tournaments can get them into the Top 25. Hardy on the other hand is right in the thick of it. Hardy through extraordinarily consistent play despite not landing a victory over the 2 year season had landed him firmly in the top 25. However he has missed 3 of the last 5 tourneys and in the two he completed he made the cut but was not in contention. He has fallen from a very solid 15 to 19 on the list and this week looked grim. Opening round +1 and two players from outside the top 25 pushing toward the top of the leaderboard put Hardy in more precarious spot than didn't seem possible in June. He responds with a 64 on Friday to make the cut and then a 63 yesterday to vault into the top 10. So, now despite two players jumping from outside the top 25 to above him he is holding his spot at 19th. If he maintains a top 10 he might have done enough to stay through the final 4 weekends, but another strong round today could seal this puppy up and we will have another Illini to follow on the tour next year.

Appreciate the summary. Well done

welp, that was an unfortunate turn of events on Sunday with Nick posting his second +1 round of the week. Very strange tourney for him, two brilliant rounds and two stinkers. A T-35 does him very little and he ended up dropping a spot to 20th in the rankings. Work to be done but he is still fairly secure.

I think Sunday is the day Nick Hardy gets awarded his PGA Tour card....providing nothing crazy happens in the next 4 days. Hopefully he makes another cut and adds enough points to secure his card. Started the day with 2 early birdies but added 2 bogies so far on his 2nd nine to drop back to par.

This was not the week for a missed cut but its not all bad. He retained his spot at 20th. They are nipping at his heals now though, and many are lined up behind that if they have a win or top 3 could jump.

Only his second missed cut in a year and I think if he makes the remain 3 cuts he should hold them off. However, Uihlein just dropped 3 spots from 25th to 28th, so it can happen. Also, Skinns jumped 24 spots with the win. 3 tournaments to go and it's all to play for. I have to think this wrist injury has thrown a wrench into the plans and I just hope he has enough to see this through.

Hardy has his card. The top 25 is determined after the last regular event. The 3 tournaments remaining are the Korn Ferry finals and it looks like 25 more cards will be awarded after these events.

Then do some current PGA card holders lose theirs??? Like the soccer leagues move teams up and down...

Yes, the top 125 plus recent winners of certain events are fully exempt for the next year. The others move down. It's very similar to soccer relegation.

I think of how I feel standing over a $5 putt and know that, physical talent aside, I simply wouldn't have the mental makeup to handle that kind of pressure.

68 today, that works. This is a good start to the year. T-32 heading into Sunday.

Wasn't sure where to post this but it's fun to see a great Illini like Steve Stricker front and center as captain of our U.S. Ryder Cup team. I know he got some heat (deservedly!) for wearing Badgers stuff to a basketball game a few years ago, but still thrilled to see a former Illini doing so much in his career. I've been rooting for him for years.

Was awesome to wake up at 6 this morning when it's still pitch black in Wisconsin and stands were already packed on first tee with fans singing and drinking and going nuts. For my money, Ryder Cup is 2nd to March Madness in my favorite sporting events.

Hoping for a great weekend filled with drama and great shots and unpredictable storylines. Knowing the history of the Ryder Cup, I'd expect nothing less

I hope it's coffee they were drinking at that hour...I've started early but 6am is pushing it!

Not a great day for Hardy at the Sanderson Farms, shot -1 and ended up in a tie for 26th. Looks like about a 55k payday, well done rookie.
At least he turned a poor day into a decent day at the end. He was +2 after 13 holes(one of the 6 worst scores up to that point), but finished with an eagle and birdie near the end. Nearly made a hole in one on the short par four....stuck tee shot 3 feet from the pin! Keep making cuts Nick. Moved up to 31st in FedEx Cup.

Agreed, 2 starts 2 cuts, decent finishes. This is the way to a long career.

I am sure he wants to push through into the winners circle but it seems like he hasn't quite figured out that mental aspect yet. The last couple of years he has had great final rounds to get to a high finish but starting from way back or when in contention just a middling final round that gets him a nice finish but not at the top. I think he is fighting a mental block on that front but his game is so strong right now that top 25s on the PGA tour seem like a reasonable goal, thats great golf.

Pieters tied for the lead heading in to the final round in Portugal. lets see if he can keep the big numbers off the board. Making a ton of birdies as usual.
On 18, Pieters is in first @ -19, two strokes ahead of second place golfer. Pieters‘ drive went in the trap. Here’s hoping he can close it out. It’s on the Golf Channel.
