Fury is a good word. The kid is really tenacious. Most really good players have this tenacity/intensity. A few days back, people were talking about Brunson, who was one of the more intense H.S. players I've ever seen. It seems Underwood wants kids like this, and I think that's smart (as long as it's controlled fury).

Watching these J. Epps highlights, and I think he's the real deal. Wow! Looks like he can score from absolutely anywhere on the court. Could he be an 18-20 ppg scorer as a Freshman?
On a bad team? Sure. On a good team that is reloading? No.
For context, Ayo averaged 14 ppg on a bad team.
Mirror image of Kendall Gill? He kind of reminds me of Gill. Although I recall Gill being rawer, but longer and more freakishly athletic at the same stage.
I remember a 6-2 combo/ point guard who started as a freshman (31.8 mph) on a decent Illini team. He was also a scorer (15.9 ppg) and played below the rim.

I hope though that next year's team is better than the one Kiwane played for. The Big10 was very tough back then. Had such high hopes for that team but they were inconsistent.

Kiwane Garris was a 16 pt scorer out of the gate, and 80%+ from the FT line. He's always my benchmark for Freshman scoring guards.

Yes, Garris was a perfect example of a "scoring point guard." Would be nice if Epps was that good.
Re Sencire Harris, I don't think he has quite the long arms and huge hands that Kendall had, but I still think he's a very good pickup. Like I said, I love his intensity.
Gill, at a generously listed 6'5, sometimes played the "3" in the NBA.
I vote yes. But.....
If he turns out to be wrong then we shun him and egg his beach house.
Gill dunked with his left hand, shot the jumper with his right hand.
I remember Gill very thin as a HS senior with great leaping ability and long arms. Don't remember him as a primary ball handler, though against King HS it seems like he scored most of their points. Liberty was a junior but thinking Gill was the best player on the floor.

He and his family were very nice people too. (Yes I knew them a bit, but on a personal level.)
He was unique and the he joins will be better than Epps joins and his role will significantly different than the Kiwane stepped into. However if Epps duplicates Kiwane's freshman season I will be beyond ecstatic.
Heard a guy who played juco ball say they were at Parkland and his father had come to the game. The two of them were talking in the hallway outside of the locker room shortly after the game ended and Kendall walked through the hallway, I believe he was a HS Senior at the time and had come to see his brother play (I think...I dont even know if KG had a brother). Anyway, this guy's father father pointed at Kendall (who was very skinny, but the guy telling the story said his shoulders were well over 2x wider than his hips) and said "THAT is what a D1 athlete looks like." This guy was said he was offended at the time that his Dad was basically telling him he was inferior but said he knew his Dad was right!
I forcibly look away every time. I thought I was the only one on here that hated it.
