That and probably how Dee dealt with the pressure of the starting job at such a basketball-crazed university. I think our fans came down a bit hard on the kid. Although, my opinion of this is purely conjecture. I’m just connecting the dots on him not playing, while insiders have mentioned he isn’t injured.
We are on the same page then. I wasn’t sure if you were wondering if Dee may end up back on staff in some capacity.

Message board allegations of some not pretty stuff that happened with Dee when he briefly worked at the University. I was lead to believe a few years away from the program probably wasn't going to fix what was broke.

Also, feels strange to me two D1 assistants had a chat with a current player. I mean if it happened spontaneously I get it, but if it was planned it seems off to me.

I would guess that Dee was speaking as a fan favorite, legend alumni. Not an assistant coach. I could be wrong.

So, I needed to clarify my scale better. I do see a difference between Conference Elite & National Elite

4) Power 5 Elite (B10 as an example) -Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, & Ohio St
5) National Elite - Michigan, Baylor, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Kansas, NC, Villanova
6) Bluebloods - Duke, Kentucky, NC, Kansas, UCLA

I see use as solid 4, and with a couple more years as possible 5. (recently as low as a 2)

Oh i wasn't trying to imply foul play or anything. But the fact remains whether Dee is an alum/fan/whatever he's also a D1 assistant. Just feels like there's some violation there, but I have zero precedent there.

I'm sure it was harmless.

As long as Belo doesn't end up transfering to UIC, I don't think Dee has to worry. :ROFLMAO:

Legal as long as Dee did not initiate a personal call to Belo.
Belo must be the one to initiate that call. Not sure how this works with the new transfer portal.

My guess is Archie, since he just got fired based on outsized expectations at IU. Sean may still have some NCAA stuff over his head. (but probably not...)
Have seen Sean’s name mentioned with Maryland assuming Dixon and his 1-11 current squad doesn’t get a fast pass. We can hope

I've heard Underwood say more than once that most of these kids on the team may not even know who Deron Williams is. Also, things like, "the past doesn't matter."

I understand that the past doesn't necessarily play a factor on current games, but wouldn't it be good to inculcate some culture from the past into the program still?

Also, I find it hard to believe they don't know things about past Illini. With YouTube, how would they have not watched as much historical Illini content as possible?

Brad is a master of hyperbole. I wouldn’t take a lot of what he says too literally. I’m pretty sure Deron Williams name and pictures are all over the place. Not to mention in the rafters. They know who he is.

Do people think that Maryland fans would give an Indiana washout coach a fair chance? The expectations seem to be equally unrealistic at both of the schools. Given this, Maryland may need to take a shot at an up and coming coach. One who has not proven that they can't win at a high level.
